I hate effing Vista
Had someone bring in an HP desktop that wouldn't boot. Repaired with restore point to boot up to desktop.Had 27 trojans, etc. on it Disinfected, tweaked settings and got it working. Rebooted and back to same problem. restored again. This time not only were the infections back but it wouldn't connect online. Microsoft 6to4 adapter error. No matter what, could not get it to connect. Removed devices, reinstalled new drivers, everything. Ubuntu Live CD worked fine so it wasn't hardware.

Finally convinced myself that Vista had to go. Of course HP had no drivers listed for XP on that model. talked to customer and he agreed to upgrade to 7. Had a HP Windows 7 Home Premium X64 upgrade disk here so I saved the old data, wiped the drive and installed from scratch. Works much better now, performance increased about 25% over Vista.

Customer happy, me happy.

1. You're lucky it was on the list for Windows 7
My laptop's got Vista and won't upgrade because M$ doesn't have a driver for Acer's proprietary disk controller.

2. One of the stupidest purchases I ever made. Didn't really need it,
just thought it would be good to have an up-to-date Windows system available on a machine

Yuck

I didn't even bother setting it up. I was going to put XP on it but HP had no drivers for the sound and wireless and the manufacturers would give any out. So it is now running Ubuntu 10.04-which found all the hardware and installed drivers automatically.
