Comodo Secure DNS -- WTF?

I have been to Comodo, to hell and back, and did my very best-est to uninstall Comodo completely and had to reload my machine with my limited computer-intellect and not -quite- the proper disks, last year. But Comodo WILL NOT GO AWAY. Tonite it kept putting up this warning label with "Comodo Secure DNS" and I finally found the button to push to tell it 'eff-ewe, I am going there anyway (I knew the site was FINE.)

And the site WAS fine, but I am p.o'd.

I don't know if I can get help here, or for sure if I need it, but I needed to post this also as a **CAUTION** to anyone who doesn't know yet, Comodo can cause you a lot of trouble. There may be people who are fine and swear by it, but it is not recommended for the less-than-TOTAL 100% GEEKY -- user.

When you install the new version of Comodo, it has a feature that it asks you if you want to include, which is their Secure DNS service. What that does is use the DNS (domain name servers) from Comodo rather than your ISP's DNS (which is what people usually--but not always--use). The DNS is basically a lookup service that associates a web site's address (URL) to it's specific location (IP address). The reason some people opt to use various DNS is because some of them update more frequently than others, so some are more reliable than others; also, some are hosted on faster equipment than others and so are able to serve you the info more quickly. As well, there's the remote possibility that a hacked DNS can send you somewhere that you don't want to actually go (and thus infect your computer with a virus, malware, etc).

So, apparently Comodo began offering their own DNS service, bundled with their other security software. When you install, it specifically asks you if you want to use their DNS service. You may (as I have) choose to say "No thanks, I'll continue using my own."

Not sure why this particular piece of Comodo stayed around when you uninstalled, but my guess is that it wouldn't automatically know which other DNS you would rather use if you were uninstalling Comodo, so it leaves it there so that you can still get around on the net.

That makes sense. Personally I think comodo is evil but that was just my experience ; )
