Microsoft Security Essentials?
I run Windows, but use Firefox as the browser.

I know Microsoft is The Evil in many ways, but if I'm looking for a free anti-virus...anti-everything that's bad...program for PC, do you have any opinion about Microsoft Security Essentials?

I'm pretty sure McAfee is causing problems (it locks up tremendously when online, but especially gmail, interestingly enough), so I want to remove that. I used Panda years ago and it was awful in that it slowed the system down horribly; however, my SO is using the free version now and loves it, so I'm thinking of loading Panda. Then I saw a blog advocating Microsoft Security Essentials and wondered if the latest version if that is worth considering?

Thanks. :hi:

1. It's one of the few things M$ has done that works right.
My only beef is that it won't work with XP X64. It works with 32 bit XP, 32 and 64 bit Vista and 7 but not 64 bit XP.

3. I've been using
Avira for years and have never had any problems. I have it set to update every day, which it does smoothly and almost-always glitch free (every year or so they have some little issue which is always quickly resolved.) http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus

I keep Malwarebytes and SpywareBlaster on hand to run occasionally as housekeeping. There's my two cents worth. :hi:
