How can I move Quickbooks Pro from my desktop to my laptop?

I tried contacting the nice people at Intuit, but all they tried to do was sell me an upgraded version of Quickbooks. Yeah, I know I need that, but for right now, I just want to move the version that I have.

I have not found anything worthwhile in a Google search. I am grateful for any ideas.

I had a client who lost their Point of Sale disks and had to move it to another computer. They were able to verify the purchase using the registered name and phone number. Then they were given the web address to download the software again.

My laptop decided suicide was the way to go. When I get to the office this evening, I'll go through my emails and see if I can find the instructions I gave them. (I was a QB Pro-Advisor for a few years)

I have never found Intuit tech support to be overly helpful. Is there a way to buy a copy of the current version you are running and set it up on the laptop?

Try copying your entire QB program folder to a flash drive and thence to your laptop. Then, using a copy of your company file, try to open it.

I have a long and fraught history with Quickbooks and by choice, still use version 7.4 (circa 2000) because it is solid and without too many tricks to fuck up your carefully entered data. As I said - long shot and depends on how many of QBs features you actually use, such as online banking, statements etc.

Intuit are fuckers, plain and simple. I'd be keen to know if this works, or if not, which functions failed.

Their software is crap and their tech support is worse.

I went with a merchant services company specifically because they worked with Quickbooks. The prices were okay and they had the best price on equipment but I really aimed at ease of use rather than price. Three months in, they inform me that they won't support my version of Quickbooks unless I upgrade (which after reading all the horror stories, I do not want to do.) There's a huge contract cancellation fee and everything had been working seamlessly until this point. Back to manual entry. I planned to leave them so they dropped the fees significantly. I still plan to leave them but I have to find another merchant that will do everything it promises to do.

I read the article about people using phones instead of credit cards (and giving the merchant a way to avoid processing fees) and it cannot come soon enough for me!

Is that you need to go through hoops to convert a company file created in a more recent QB version.

In about 2006 I played witht he idea of upgrading from QB 7.4 to the current version. It turned out that company files first needed to be converted to QB 2002 and then to QB 2005 before it would open. Even accountants were having problems converting old company files, the easiest solution being to send them a copy of the original QB 7.4 program disc for installation.

Told you Intuit were fucking fuckers.
