Firefox browser by Mozilla: nothing happens when Bookmark This Page
Well, perhaps something happens, but it doesn't bookmark the page into the bookmark subfolder that I select. Nor have I found the bookmark elsewhere, although I haven't done an exhaustive search through my bookmarks. I can try repeatedly to bookmark a given webpage while it is displayed in the browser, and nothing seems to happen.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but it didn't help.

Any guesses as to what might be causing this problem?

2. Thank you for replying.
I'm not ready at the moment to invest time in investigating in detail the article at the link. The descriptions at the beginning of the article describe problems that sound similar to the problem I have been encountering, but give no indication that the article deals with the specific problem I have been encountering. For example, the article mentions bookmarks not having been saved after restarting Firefox, but the problem I have been encountering occurs during continuous use of Firefox without any Exiting. I have been working around the problem by copying and pasting website addresses into files.

Perhaps the word "saved" isn't helpful for locating information in Mozilla's help database about the specific problem that I have been encountering. For example, the "Bookmark This Page" feature is simply non-functioning, but perhaps I need to search for some synonym of the term "non-functioning." Alternatively, perhaps I should simply read the whole article carefully.

3. Here are a couple of things to try
1. Go to your Firefox profile and check if the bookmarks file is read only. To find the profile, open Firefox, Help menu > Troubleshooting information. In the top section, Application Basics, click on Profile Directory, Open Containing Folder.

2. Try creating a new profile and see if that works as it should.
First, close Firefox using File>Exit.
Go to Start > Run and type or paste in firefox.exe -ProfileManager
From there on, it should be pretty self explanatory. A dialogue comes up with options to edit/create new etc.

6. Thank you
The second worked in the sense that Bookmark This Page is now creating new bookmarks, but in a fresh hierarchy of bookmarks rather than adding to what I already had. Is there reason to suspect that the old bookmarks file was somehow corrupted?

The first showed that the bookmarks file wasn't set to read-only, so that wasn't the problem. However, I suspect that the "Troubleshooting Information..." menu option in the Help menu could be useful in future.

Thanks again!

7. Corrupt bookmarks file
is a high possibility. You could try opening the old bookmarks file in a text editor and manually copying and pasting them across to the new Bookmarks.html, also opened in text editor.

I've never operated with more than one Firefox profile. I would imagine you would be better off deleting the one with the bad bookmarks file. You may need to manually remove the unwanted bookmarks.

4. I really don't care for FF handles its bookmarks since ver 3.0
but what can you do? Anyway, if a site is bookmarked the little star in the address bar will be yellow. If you click on that star, a dialog window will open where you can edit the title, tags and location of the bookmark.

5. Thanks for the tip.
That works for me. I suppose that it's a good practice to balance the adding of new bookmarks with the removal of ones that one no longer wants. Otherwise there is no limit to how much will have been saved, and what one wants easy access to will be hidden among a mass of what should have been either archived or simply deleted.
