How can this possibly be legit?
Edited on Wed May-25-11 11:23 AM by Stinky The Clown
edit cuz I hit "post" way too soon

This is the text of a craigslist ad. It is typical of many, many others.

FileMaker Pro 11 Advanced includes all the features of FileMaker Pro 11 plus a suite of advanced development and customization tools.

If you design databases for yourself or your group and want to build more powerful and more flexible database applications, then FileMaker Pro 11 Advanced is for you.

IT LEGIT WITH SERIAL KEY, IT CAN UPDATE DAILY....I CAN INSTALL TO VALIDATE THE SOFTWARE.....(Person's Name and Cell phone nunber here)

Filemaker Pro 11 Advanced sells in the $350 to $450 range. How does this guy get away with selling legit copies for his asking price of $80?

1. No way.
He might have a legit copy with key but he's illegally installing it on more computers than he has a license for.

2. Volume License
Then he gives you a link to a digital download. Not exactly legal.

3. What's a Volume License? How does that work?
We're an itty bitty company of four people who have four legal copies of everything we use. Would such a license be cheaper for us? Is it available for all apps or only if the software house wants to sell their product that way?

4. Usually companys offer discounts...
when you buy 10 or more licenses... not sure what Filemaker offers... you should give them a call at 1-800-252-3640.

It never hurts to ask!

Also, if you are a Windows shop, let them know that you are thinking about switching over to MS Access 2010 and using SQL Server Express to serve linked-tables for performance gains, and also because you want to automate some functionality (like backups) and through SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) publish data to your web site, automatically. I'm sure they will work with you on price points to keep a current customer!

5. Thanks!
We're a Mac shop.

Our CAD vendor has given us a substantial discount (about 55% off list) when we agreed to a three year subscription instead of annual updates. That's probably as close as we can get to an actual volume discount.
