Thunderbird won't connect.....

Am trying to use Thunderbird for my email - every time I try it gives me a "failed to connect" message. I've called my ISP and verified the POP and SMTP is okay and my user name/pswd is correct -- but none of those techies know anything about Mozilla so they can't suggest what else could be wrong. I'm on a cable modem, btw.{P}
Should I uninstall TBird and start over? I'm ready to chew my keyboard in frustration here.

And, yes, I'll gladly switch to a Mac - just PM me for the address you can send it to. :)

But I would advise you to switch to avoid viruses and spyware. This is what I suggest if you want free.

As for TBird itself, it is not giving you an authentication error so the failure is occuring before it can get a change to login. Perhaps you have a firewall that is blocking?

I'll try disabling Zone Alarm although I have Tbird listed as allowed on ZA.

I'll check out your suggestion for xandros, too - just not sure I'm up for another learning curve. (I'm not so much a newbie as I am an 'oldbie' - as in 'dirt').
