2. I use Tools, Internet Options, Security and leave Privacy
options at medium while adding "trusted sites" in the Security tab. I think that is a better practice then just lowering security in general.

3. I use Firefox
and it allows you to accept the cookies you want and to not allow all sites to set cookies by asking you. Some cookies are not good cookies to have on your computer. By using this feature you will see some sites slam you with tracking cookies and some sites don't. Another alternative is to use cookiewall for those that don't want to change browsers. It gives the IE user the option of accepting cookies or not.

4. You can do that with IE if you want, no?
Raise the security levels to accept cookies only on approval. Apparently Foxfire does that by default but IE can do it too if you want it to.

I have firefox and it seems OK but I am more comfortable with IE

5. I am not comfortable
with Allowing drive-by downloads, java script insanity, ActiveX security flaws out the wahzoo, homepage hijacks and popup porn but thats just me. A browser like Firefox is far superior to IE in protecting the average computer user.

6. Well, I have not experienced most of those problems
I am pretty vigilant about it and regularly scan for spyware, freeware, etc. I think being behind a router also protects me from a lot more of it than many others. I have never had my homepage hijacked, never had popup porn or any other serious security problems because I also have IE adjusted for security purposes not to allow unsigned ActiveX, etc.

Maybe you are right about the "average" user without a firewall, without a router, etc., but for me IE is still the most versatile broswer.

7. Skinner's trying to help me out
I'm on IE now and moving to another computer. I plan on trying out Firefox as soon as I finish reconfiguring my computer set-up, but for now I'm having trouble signing in on the other computer. But I will be getting Firefox soon, that's for sure.
