Some guy is posting my address & phone # in Yahoo forums
posing as a "conservative" who wants to kill "libs." Don't know how he got my information (the number is actually registered to my roommate) but I get calls late at night from outraged liberals...so I have to explain it wasn't me. I'm not particularly worried about some crazed idiot showing up at my house, but if the situation were reversed (like he was impersonating me as a liberal threatening neocons) I probably would be...in any case we are very well armed and know how to deal with threats but the phone calls are damned annoying. I've reported (ha!) this to Yahoo several times but nothing ever gets done. If I knew a way to find out who this SOB is, I'd pay him a visit but I have no idea how to get an identification...anybody have any suggestions?

1. That's horrid ...

First, my deepest sympathies.

Second, as much as this sucks, I think you need a lawyer, especially if the poser is actually threatening to kill people, even just implying that they should be killed. This is an implicit threat against you as well. If it were me, I would be very interested in finding the identity of this person, and that will probably require a warrant of some type.

There are non-legal ways of doing this, but I'd rather not go there.

I'd wait for the advice of a legal type before doing this, but to stop the phone calls, you're probably going to have to change your number. Now that it's out there, even if you manage to get the message removed, it's cached somewhere and likely will be for as long as the storage system holds out.

2. I have a BIT of suspicion it's someone I probably knew in the past
but I could be totally wrong on that...I really don't want to change the number unless it gets unbearably weird but I sure would like to find out who this prick is. I think I'll call up one of my good friends who's a federal judge and see what he has to say about it.
