Any help on figuring out which programs are safe to delete?
I just got a new laptop & it came fully loaded with crap, crap & more crap. There's something like 150,000 files that norton (piece of crap that I'll dump as soon as I load better stuff) checked.

How do I figure out what to delete? There's no manual describing each program & most of 'em I've never heard of.

thanks everyone for any help.

1. I bought a new Dell laptop a couple of months ago.
It had more crap loaded on it than I can imagine. I uninstalled Sonic (DVD software because I have another product I like), and a bunch of other stuff I didn't want. Anything that said AO-Hell went out the door too and also the Netscape install stuff. I really don't need their "phone home" crap so I uninstalled that too because I can troubleshoot better than they can. I like the laptop but the stuff they installed was viscious!

What programs do you have that you question? When I configured my laptop I couldn't get around picking an anti-virus so I went with PC-Cillin. We use it at work and it is pretty good. Every now and then my screen saver would hang and I'd have to do a hard shutdown to get it going again. I finally uninstalled PC-Cillin and installed what I use on my other workstations (NOD32) and haven't had that happen since. You gotta figure out what you don't want to use and uninstall the rest. Why don't you post some of the apps you have.

2. Don't know if this'll help you
but this guy has created an AutoIt script he calls the Dell DeCrapifier. Just run the script and it strips the cruft off a new Dell:

3. What a cool site.
Unfortunately, I went with HP.

I'm going to do what Jazzgirl suggested & post some of them here. I could also google each one, but why go to all that when maybe great DUers can come to my rescue.
