WHAT IS HAPPENING?
IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL COMPAQ AND HP NOTEBOOK COMPUTER USERS
This e-mail contains important information regarding a product recall affecting certain HP and Compaq brand notebook/laptop computers.
Desktop PCs (normal, full-size computers), and notebooks PCs by manufacturers other than HP and Compaq are not affected by the following information; if you do not have a notebook PC, you may disregard this notice.
During normal ongoing notebook testing, HP has identified a design flaw in certain memory modules and memory accessories shipped with some HP and Compaq notebooks. Under certain conditions, these memory modules can cause the notebook to experience blue screens, intermittent lockups, or memory data corruption.

To protect its customers, HP announced a worldwide voluntary Memory Module Replacement Program for customers who have the affected memory modules. HP will provide replacement modules at no charge for each affected notebook. Orders for this program must be received prior to 31 December 2004.
The Memory Module Replacement Program will be ending on December 31st, 2004. Customers with affected notebooks must order their replacement memory modules before this date.
WHO IS AFFECTED?
A large proportion of the notebooks currently in use by Sustainable Resource Development are potentially affected. They include the following models:
· Compaq Evo Notebook N610c
· Compaq Evo Notebook N610v
· Compaq Evo Notebook N620c
· Compaq Evo Notebook N800c
· Compaq Evo Notebook N800v
· Compaq Evo Notebook N800w
· Compaq Evo Notebook N1000c
· Compaq Evo Notebook N1000v

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
The deadline for free replacement is rapidly approaching and not all affected notebooks have been identified; therefore we have chosen to distribute this e-mail and request that all notebook users perform a simple and relatively quick check of their systems. Under normal circumstances testing and ordering of replacement memory takes less than 5 minutes, although it may take longer for users in extremely remote sites.
