the girls that works there was putting on rollerblades. I asked her, "Don't you get enough exercise here?" She then told me this story...
She lives in the neighborhood and jogs a lot. She used to run by this auto body shop that had a pit bull guard dog in their lot at night. She happened to go by there one day and saw that, during the day, the dog was put in a fenced in area and stayed there all day. She was really bummed about this and one day on her run she stopped by and asked the owner if she could take his dog for a walk. The guy was a little taken aback, but he agreed.
So, everyday, this girl would stop by and pick up the dog and off they would go. She said first they did walks, then they ran together, and now she rollerblades and the dog runs! The shop gave her a key and she can stop in and take the dog whenever she wants. She was so funny because she was so proud of the dog -- like it was her own. She showed me a picture that she had of him, and told me that she often brought the dog down to doggy day care to play with the other dogs.
I was bummed to hear that the dog was kept in an enclosure like that, but glad to hear that this girl was taking him out for exercise. She said that the owner of the shop said that the dog started to get antsy about a half hour before she would show up -- like he knew she was on her way. She has been exercising him for two years, she told me.
I thought it was a pretty cool story.
