How daring are your cats - do they dare eat off your plate?
My Jamie is 17 1/2 and is getting bolder every day. Usually, she begs from a distance but in the past few months she has gone nuts. It started when we ate off the counter stools instead of the kitchen table because of a school project. Jamie feels at home on the counters and we had shrimp so she just walked up to my plate and swiped a shrimp with her paw. We were so shocked we laughed, it seems we created a monster. Tonight, we had ribs and ate at the table. Jamie jumped up onto the table, grabbed a rib off my plate and took it to the far end of the table. At this stage of her life, I am glad she's showing her chutzpah, but I wonder if anyone else has a cat that does this.

1. My cats won't think twice. If they see a chance to get at my food

they take it.

They also want IN the fride if it opens. I'm always shoo-ing them away from it.

My best bet is to feed them first, then get my food while they're eating.

2. The Paw is Quicker than the Fork.

I've known several cats who would intercept food on the way from my plate to my mouth -- the paw whips out and the food is gone. One of my current cats, Milo, has been known to steal entire pork chops from my plate when I'm not looking, run into another room and devour them. A kitten I had years ago, when only a few months old, dragged a sandwich away that was twice the size of his head. I've always fed them well; I just think they enjoy the hunt.

3. My friend's beloved Maine Coon once went 'fishing' on the stove...
When my friend made soup with fish in it, the cat climbed up on the counter to watch the soup simmer and when a piece of fish worked its way to the top - snatch! She caught the cat fishing, put a lid on the soup and made sure he didn't get up there again - but the story is legend.

:-)

5. My cat won't even wait till the food is ready
He jumps on the counter while I prepare the food. He tries to swipe raw chicken or hamburger meat!

7. We have to keep a squirt bottle around.
I don't actually have to use it ... just put it near the plates. Otherwise, the Abys would steal the whole meal. The other two don't like table scraps at all.

8. I grew up with well-behaved 4-on-the-floor dachshunds
This whole thing of cats on the table, cats on your shoulders, is ridiculous.

I can no longer sit in front of TV with a bowl of cereal watching Stephanopoulis or McLaughlin without the cat on my lap, trying to intercept the spoon for some milk.

Very disturbing behaviour.

9. My boyfriend taught my cats bad habits
Before he came along they would be fed my scraps only in their own bowls but now that he feeds them right from his plate, forget it.

What I want to know is, what part of "Please don't feed them from your plate" can't he understand?

They are now, officially, bad kitties!!!

I will say that Annie waits very politely for the bowl with the leftover cereal milk to be set down on the floor for her. But if there is cheese around...oy!

11. Now is it too surprising that you have cats - a species that
notoriously doesn't mind, AND a bf that doesn't mind.

It means you're easy going.

Control freaks can't have cats.

12. I just can't resist the kitties or my sweetie- whatever they want...
...I want to give them!

Annie tried her first banana bread last night. She liked it!
