Cat Tail Trivia

Several people remarked that my cat Milo seems to have an unusually long tail. So I did some research and learned that there is no set number of vertebrae in a cat's tail; it can be anywhere from 14-28, with an average of 18-21. Just thought this was trivially interesting. If anybody has pics of an unusually long or especially splendid cat tail, please post here!

had a magnificant tail - and he was a short-haired cat. One of my brothers even nick-named him "Big Tail" because as a kitten he was most proud of his tail and would also fluff it up at any opportunity, so cute when he would play. Lily and Pad Thai - my two orientals - both have skinny tails. They can fluff them but really there is no great show there :).




Charley seems to have a very long tail, though thin. He is continually growing and filling out his tail so I don't think the tail is going to be that showy. I've never seen him fluff his tail, in jest or real fear.

They're like ostriches, they think if they can't see you, you can't see them!

Jennings is like a short haired cat from the middle up and a long haired cat from the middle down. His tail is fluffy and black, but with white "highlights." He likes to curl up on my pillow behind my head and tickle me with his tail in the morning. :loveya:

is he really a big cat compared to other cats? Could he be part maine coon cat? Just curious.

He was dumped and rescued by the shelter I volunteer at. He is about 6 months old now and about 5 pounds. REAL sweetie :loveya: He wakes me up every morning with purrs and kisses :loveya:

The shelter thinks it was closed in a door when she was a kitten. We adopted her at 8 weeks and her tail never grew. At 17 1/2 her tail is still only about 8 inches long, including the 2 in hook at the end.

This is Tuffie. She has what I call "itty bitty kitty syndrome". This syndrome manifests itself by making dimunitive kitties believe they are a thousand times larger and tougher than any animal in the jungle. I also call it "catitude". Check out those long whiskers.

She looks like a female version of my boy, Sebastian. I adopted Sebastian as an adult cat from the shelter. The folks at the shelter guessed he was part Maine Coon.

She was a stray living on the streets at Christmas when she came into my life. I would guess she was about 6 months old and was on the wild side.

At the time, I had never heard of a Maine Coon, but some neighborhood people walking by one day identified her breed.

At first, she would not meow but chirped and trilled instead, and yes, she does use her paws like hands sometimes.

She is my baby that has the malignant cancer, but is holding her own so far.

I imitate him and we go back and forth a lot. I think he likes it. Sorry to hear about the cancer. What is her prognosis?

She was on prednisone (kitty type) and a type of liver pill until her liver levels got better. Now, she takes prednisone every third day and I am giving her essiac tea.
The vet said I would know when it was "time" and Tuffie would let me know she was in extreme pain.
For now, she is doing well. Who knows...maybe the tea will work on her.

tail I have ever seen. I'll see if she can forward a picture of his lanyard. It's a riot. He's and orange and white tabby.
