Crybaby showed up w/broken leg and saw vet
Edited on Fri Nov-25-05 06:37 PM by superconnected
Hi all,

You probably remember Crybaby. She is a stray I feed that I never found a home for. After disappearing for several weeks, she showed up this morning with a broken leg.

She came to eat but was not using one paw to stand/walk on. So I whisked her to the vet and found out

- she is a girl
- she is elderly
- she weighs only 5.1 lbs - very thin and light
- she was dehydrated and had to be given fluids
- her temperature was 99.4 - hypothermic
- her leg was broken probably weeks ago but is healing, she needs to be off it for two weeks for it to heal straight - thus she will stay in my bedroom.
- she was probably hiding in the bushes all this time - per the vet
- she may have gotten hit by a car but her pads are still on her paws.
- her leg is broke on the upper left side near the body.
- a tooth was kocked out and the root is still there but she is not in good enough condition for the vet to work on her yet.
- she is spayed
- The vet may take her tooth root out in january if she is in good enough health to work on her. (I can't wait as I want her out of pain)

I also found that she is really docile and the vet called her a real trooper to be so calm with a broken leg and in such poor condition.

She'll likely make it and it gives me a chance to try to get her used to being in my place and have my cats accept her. They ran her off before.

So it's ultimately good new for her. Now shes separated from them and all can get used to each other.

Crybaby on my bed eating - I don't want her jumping down with the broken leg so I put the food on the bed. The vet did not tape up the leg or put it in a cast as it's partly healed.

Oh, and Crybaby hasn't cried at all except for the drive to the vet today. She slept most of the day. When she's awake she is not crying.

1. Poor little girl :(
You are such a wonderful person for taking care of her! It looks like you gave her one heck of a Thanksgiving feast :)

4. Crybaby is now named Claire.
She is doing well. she is staying on my bed, even to eat and she does hobble down and over to the litterbox once in a while. She seems very happy. We're happy to have her.

She is a very clean cat. She also likes to rub against my face with her face when I am on the bed.

I think her story is a happy ending. My cats are leaving her alone and they all sleep in my room so apparently now that she's wounded, she is accepted by them.
