Could someone please help this person out in the Lounge.....
...who knows more about pet placement than I do. They've helped out a stray kitten, and want to place it somewhere. They do not intend to keep the kitty, and maybe others could suggest some alternatives... http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x4423043

1. I've also offered to do the first leg of a caravan.
I am limited to the weekend though, this next week. After that I'm free at any time with 24 hour notice.

2. Here are some pics of the poor baby
she is purrrrrfect and uses the catbox. She is fine with all the dogs and cats I have and just wants to lay on your lap where she purrs so loudly you have to turn up the TV. She hasn't bothered anything on the Christmas tree and, in short, if I didn't already have three she would be mine. I really want to find her a good home, she deserves it.

enjoy!!!

3. Update!
Well I may have some leads on placing the black kitten.....guess what showed up today? Her sister!
She is a grey and white tabby, just as sweet and good with other animals. I could honestly hurt these people who drop their cats off. I can not keep these animals and it hurts to think I may have to surrender them to a shelter. Everyone of my animals is spayed or neutered and they are well cared for. I don't need this and neither do these animals, I know I'm preaching to the choir here. Well anyway wish me luck at placing these babies.

;(

5. where are you?
I dont go out looking for cats but I always take responsibility for the ones that wander into my life--have found homes for many. Besides word of mouth, you can put ads up in supermarket, newspaper, freecycle, etc. In the ad you must make it clear that its not first come first served, you WILL be wanting to make sure they have a good home. Grill them about how to care for cats, are they experienced, do they want to learn. Get vet references, get their address and say you'll deliver the cat and you'll also want to stop by in a month or 2 just to see how things are going. Anyone who balks at this--cross them off your list. A real animal lover is going to understand where youre coming from. And give them your phone # in case it doesn't work out.

Actually by being super-protective and screening people, I think that actually increases desireability of the cat! People like to know they're getting an animal thats been well cared for and they like that you'll take them back no questions asked if it doesnt work out.

6. No, Freecycle is the worst place you could advertise.

Also, join some of the animal rescue groups on YahooGroups.com. I have found homes for 3 cats that were dropped off on my doorstep through a few of the local groups.

Also, check out this Web site for some pointers and warnings about who not to adopt to.

7. well I think it depends on where you live and as I said you MUST
Edited on Thu Dec-15-05 08:09 PM by Kashka-Kat
MUST MUST MUST MUST screen -- whether thats a friend of a friend, or whoever. And if something doesn't sit right with you, you are under no obligation at all to give anything to anyone. You can say you've already talked to other people and you're going to make a decision in a few days and "get back to them".

The article sure makes a good point and sure asking for money is 1 way of screening out some unsuitable people--but I would say even if youre asking for money, still screen them and if the people seem weird, just don't go thru with the transaction.

Had no problems w/ it here. In fact just got some great fish from people who were very fussy about who they were going to give the fish to.

My feeling is that I didn't want to burden the already burdened rescue groups or shelters-- wanted instead to take the responsibility myself for caring for the cats until I was absolutely certain that they had good homes. But certainly they are great resources--nice to know theyre able to help in this kind of situation.

8. I know you will find a home for her
She is beautiful and sweet and we have so many good animal rescue people in this forum you will get help, I know it.

My heart goes out to you and the little girl. A picture of my Charley, my third cat, who ate the bread at my bird feeder and later walked in from the woods one day and straight into my heart.

If there is a God then he or she loves all those who do animal rescue.

10. Update number 2
Well, I finally placed the black kitten I called boo-boo kitty. Her sister, Princess, is still with me. She is so quiet and nice I will keep her safe until I find a home for her. She is actually no trouble at all. She loves to be picked up and held. She cuddles up under the couch all the time, I think she is a little bit unhappy with all the other animals around and would be happier being the only one in the house. I still have hopes for finding a permanant place for her.

Presenting Princess
