If cats can catch colds, I assume dogs can too ?
I stopped in here this morning to post a Q? about dogs and colds, and saw this:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=243x12577

Coincidental, because HippieDog Hank has been sneezing regularly for the past 24 hours; when he goes outside, he 'snowplows' in the snow - so his snout must be really itchy or he's congested and it's bothering him; and he's been alot more 'clingy' than ususal.

Do dogs have their own version of 'a cold'; and if so, are they serious enough that I should call the vet, or what 'home remedies' are ok for my poor Hankley ?

Appreciate anyone's input ~

Thanks !

1. Dogs do get colds/flus -- 'kennel cough' is really a family
of colds/flus that can be transmitted between dogs. My dogs have picked up colds from other dogs at the park. I haven't taken them to a vet for a cold yet, though. They seem to be sneezy and sleepy for a few days, then are back to normal. I think one threw up once when he had a cold, but only once, so I didn't worry too much. I don't know any home remedies, though if you have a nutritional supplement you give him sometimes maybe that wouldd be a good idea.

As for the the snout in the snow thing - my Golden puts his snout below the water of the creek during warm times of the year and he puts his snout below the snow when it is available. I've always thought it just felt good -- maybe they are smelling what is below the surface, maybe it is fun to push stuff up from beneath the surface with your nose. Bears stick their snouts below water waiting for salmon to swim by and then plunge! when the fish is at just the right place.

Oh, yes - my dogs said that I should mention that dogs with colds should definitely get to sleep on the bed with their head on a pillow. ;)
