Meet Peanut

Peanut is an eight year old Wire haired Fox Terrier. If you're familiar with the Thin Man movies then you've seen a Wire Haired Fox Terrier before.

Peanut was tied to a tree for several years and eventually his owners moved away while leaving him tied to the tree. Fortunately for Peanut, the neighborhood pitched in and took care of him for a while. Finally they called our rescue group and asked us to take him in.

He's a little hard or hearing and can't see as well as he used to. But he's still full of the terrier spunk and even remembers his house-training, even though he's been an outside dog for years. His coat is a little sad looking right now because we had to cut most of it off to get rid of the knots and tangles. But I still think he's cute.

Peanut isn't out for a free ride. He even works at the adoption events. He carries candy in his little backpack so he can give the kids who come up to pet him a treat as a way of saying thanks for petting me. My goal is to find a home for Peanut. Just a place where he can spend his last years with someone who will take care of him and love him. It will happen.

1. What an adorable dog
I wish, wish, wish I could come down and get him and give him to my mother for Christmas. She would love a sweet dog like that, a little older like herself, but she has mobility issues that we need to resolve. She really needs to fit her bedroom for a wheel chair. Once we get that done, I'd like to see her have a dog, even if the financial responsibility was on me.

Poor little guy, I hope he gets the home he deserves, sounds like his previous familiy were real assholes. :grr:

2. I'm always amazed at how thoughtless people can be with animals
Dogs and cats are not disposable products. Nor are they impulse items. If people were responsible for their pets we wouldn't have to spend all of our spare time trying to find homes for dogs like Peanut.

We'll find a home for him. Everyone who has contact loves him. It's just a matter of time before the right person comes along...

4. See my little orange guy
That's my cat Charley who was declawed by his previous family and abandoned outside to the woods. I lured him into my condo with food.

5. You are a person after my own heart
We have five dogs, three of which are rescues. We also have a foster dog. We would have cats but my fiance is allergic to them so it's all dogs at our house.

3. He's ADORABLE!
Good luck - I'm sure the perfect person is out there looking for him now and it'll be just a matter of time before he finds himself "home" finally. Thank you for what you do.

6. What a sweetheart. I am sure his obvious good nature will win him the
perfect home.

I only hope that those that abandoned him end their lives tied to a tree somewhere, alone, with no hope of rescue.

9. His food aggression is probably because food was unpredictable --
Peanut's food aggression (described on your website) will most likely fade quickly when his food supply becomes predictable. In the meantime, feed him in his crate - no problem.

My lab puppy (Sajdeh) was found starving. He was fed well at the shelter for 4 weeks before I took him in as a foster - he had gained 5+ pounds, looked thin, but was approaching 'normal weight'. The first time I fed him in the presence of my Golden (Ben) he ate his food then dived into Ben's bowl. When Ben put his head back in his own bowl Sajdeh attacked and would not back off. Bad start. My naivete.

Now that Saj has had 14+ months of plenty of predictable food with no competition, the two of them can share treats and eat in the same room with no problems at all.

Peanut is a sweet baby - he would make a great buddy for a retired person!

10. What a sweetie....
Thank you for helping him find a second chance in life.

I just don't understand people who keep dogs tied to trees
