My old cat died last night.
She was 20 years old and suffering from cancerous lesions on her mouth. In the last week she seemed livelier, jumping on our laps, climbing into bed with us and of course crying to be fed. She seemed to want to be with our other pets, curling up with our border collie, Bucky and allowing Squeaky our young cat to wash her face.

She was a great old cat with a big personality. We got her after a friend of my motherinlaw's found her on her doorstep in North Bergen New Jersey. Kitkat proceded to take over the household wreaking havoc on the other pets. We were newly married and looking for a pet. KitKat came home with us.

Unlike most cats she liked car rides and going visiting. We even took her camping on some property we used to own in upstate New York. If there were other animals in any household we visited she simply that she was in charge and as long as the other pets agreed, all would be well.

We were a little worried when our daughter was born but it all turned out well. Fur pulling, tail pulling--no problem--when little Jen got too rough she just walked away.

She enjoyed a long life. We tortured her with other pets. She put up with them as long as they understood that she was the queen--and was secretly fond of the dogs and even with time the kitten.

She was a grand old girl and we will miss her.

5. Thanks folks, she was a good cat.
Alot of people say that cats don't really care for the humans in their lives. I really think that this one did.

By the way, our young cat, Squeaky who found us last year as we were hiking around the minefire ghost town of Centralia Pennsylvannia has a very similar personality, outgoing, assertive and very affectionate.

14. You found a catin Centralia?
Are you sure it's not some sort of hell demon?

Sorry about the loss of your old girl, although it sounds like celebration is in order rather than mourning, since she lived a long, full, happy life. Kind of like an elderly relative of mine who left money in her will for an open bar at her wake "because" (and this is a quote from the will "you shouldn't be unhappy about someone who made it to 86"

7. My heart goes out to you
I think KitKat was truly a blessing in your life. I've been fortunate to have cats that lived as long as she did and I treasure all the memories they left.

Hugs to you and yours,

MiwSher

8. I'm so sorry.
She sounds like such a great personality and wonderful friend and member of the family through the years. People might say, "oh you shouldn't mourn because she had lived her life" - but that's garbage, because you will miss her more for the personality she projected throughout the years.

That's the pain we pet lovers face - we say goodbye to our beloved friends far too soon.

9. Thank you for honoring us with Kitkat's story.
She sounds like a dear cat and a very advanced soul. She's probably still hanging around, ruling the roost from the other side.

20 years is long in cat years but not in human years. so sorry for your loss, sounds like a great cat with lots of personality.

17. So sorry.
She had a good, long life, but it's not long enough. I once had a cat who lived to be 21, a great old guy, and I still miss him.

RIP, KitKat.

21. Ah, jeez. I'm so sorry for your loss.
There are with us for such a short time, but will always be with us in our hearts.

My best girl passed at age 17; I keep her ashes on my desk. Silly but I am comforted having her near me.

25. Oh my, what a lovely tribute....
So sorry for the loss of your furrkid, she was with you for a long time, she will be missed. Isn't it amazing when you look back how many life events these babies shared with us? My cat Sebastian is almost 15, and when we got him, my daughters were little squirts (7 & 9) now they're all grown up with furrkids/kitties of their own! How time flies. Sending you a hug. -48
