Does this cat need a shrink?
OK. So daughter #1 took Flummi in November, he's a definite alpha male orange tabby. He was one of two we adopted from the SPCA. Has always been rambunctious, but lately since he is alone without his littermate (Bro' lives in Pittsburgh until the summer with daughter #2) this cat has been extremely destructive. He has chewed modem cords, electric cords, destroyed a boxspring from the inside -- and now has taken to biting K.'s feet in early morning to 'play.' She is away all day at work.

Needless to say she loves him, but his antics are really starting to go on her nerves. I told her I would ask for advice, methinks he is sleeping all day and is just totally bored. Advice?

What'chayall think? Thanks -48

1. Sounds like Flummi needs
his littermate . . .

maybe your daughter could try putting a bird feeder outside a window or getting a fish (in a tank that Flummi can't get to). Just something for him to watch during the day would probably help.

2. Sounds like he needs a workout. Does your daughter play with him
when she gets home from work. He needs toys he can chew and chase and a couple of scratching pads. Also some catnip might help. It does sound like he needs a playmate.

3. I agree - he needs company....
funny that he plays with her feet in the morning.

my older cat used to do that when he was a kitten, and all by himself.

he'd beat me up every morning before i went to work. that pretty much stopped when he got soemone else to beat up tho.

and then he turned into the sweetest most nurturing cat ever, cuz he had a kitten to take care of.

4. I think he really misses his little brother,
they will be reunited soon. They were so funny together...as babies

5. What sweet little kitties. You should put them on the
dailykitten.com after they've finished renovating the site. They are precious. I've always thought that orange tabby male cats are usually pretty frisky and need their buddies to help work off some of that energy. Sometimes a surrogate human can help, but they seem to do better with another cat. He will probably be elated to see his brother again. You could try talking to him about his brother--mentioning his brother's name, and telling him that they will be back together soon.
