1. Ok... a little more about them.
Diet:
Every morning, I mix a 5.5 oz can of Friskies and a 3 oz can of Fancy Feast (different flavors), and give it to them in their "special" dishes.

The rest of the day they munch on Deli-Cat dry food from 4 self-feeders.

They have 2 large bowls of water that I replace at least twice a day.

Bathroom:
They share 3 large litter (Scoop Away) boxes that I clean every morning. If I don't keep them clean, Harry Fingers piddles on the floor.

Entertainment:
They have a large scratching post thingy that I keep sprinkled with fresh nip. We play with strings, bottle caps, stuffed mice, and fur (their) "cigars."

I brush them regularly and take them to the vet once a year. And I always let them know that I love them. :)

2. Here's a tip that most people like.
If your cats like to pee in the corners of the litter box, leaving a lump that's hard to clean with a conventional scoop, try this:

Save the rolls from your toilet paper and paper towels, and use them as corner scoopers.

4. Yeah, he is a cutie. Thanks :)
He can be annoying though. He and Tick are blues singers... loud and soulful and whenever the fancy strikes them.

5. Wow-they must have good genetics, too
I know what really goes into Fancy Feast and Friskies-and it's amazing that they've done so well on it! (See InvisableTouch's thread "Pet foods; the Good and the Bad" in the Economic Activism and Progressive living forum). I think daily interaction/ play is also a must; I play with Oberon every morning, Puck and Miro every night, plus I take Puck out for a walk on her leash nightly if the weather allows. They get holistic foods (Many brands; Organix, Artemis, Wellness, Merrick, Innova, Solid Gold, Halo, Brother's Blend and Kosher Pets raw diets...I figure that I wouldn't want the same thing every day, so why would they?) I guess I've turned into a nutty cat lady, lol!

Harry Fingers doesn't LOOK 20, either; remarkable!

6. About the food...
I don't know the details and I'm not sure I want to know. :puke: To be honest, I'm a little afraid to change their food since like you say, they're doing so well on it. I'll check out the thread.

My hubby and I sing to our cats. We make up silly songs & real songs with pussycat words. Some days, it's like an absurd musical here. Yeah, I'm a nutty cat lady too, Lorien. LOL

Harry Fingers was born in 1984. He used to belong to my mom but I "rescued" him when she couldn't take him soiling the rugs anymore. He's a good boy here. I think it's because I care about him more than my mom did.

9. Good for you!
I was an unsuspecting 1st-time owner and was told by my vet not to vary my cats' diets because they would get "finicky." So, for three years, they got NutroMax day in and day out. Then, my cat developed sores which turned out to be food allergies. His dermatologist told me that when this condition occurs in older cats (as in over 5 yrs. old or so), it's often because there is no variation in their diet, and the body becomes allergic to the protein that it's getting. So, now he is on food trials, the current one being lamb, then you move on to beef, chicken, kangaroo, duck, venison, etc. until you can determine which proteins make him break out in sores. A very expensive endeavor, and more importantly it's not very pleasant for Bubba. He had his sores for over a year before a found a vet to correctly diagnose him, and that took getting him to a specialist.

So, take a page from Lorien. Vary your animals' diets! Yes, they will probably decide they like certain foods more than others, but that's not finicky, it's natural!

7. you've got some nice mature fellas/gals there
my oldest is 13.5

My mom and I have special cat talk, it's almost like an appalling form of gooey baby talk that we do for our guys too, so I suppose we are in the crazy cat lady category too? ;)

8. They're all fellas.
I often wonder if our neighbors can hear us, and what they think. I actually asked my next door neighbor once, and he did a Sgt. Schultz impersonation ("I hear nothing...") and walked away laughing to himself.
