Excellent news. When we first started treating his eye infection, the IM injection of antibiotics almost killed Bart. He lost 10 grams of weight in one week. The vet recommended euthanasia.

But Bart is a fighter and I could not live with myself if I didn't fight on his behalf. We decided on a course of oral antibiotics twice a day. It's a tall order because Bart was a breeder before he came into our care in 1989 and handling him is like wrassling a small gator. After the first week, he actually regained all the weight plus brought a 1 gm friend along!

Today at the end of the second week, he has gained another 1.5 gm! His eye is looking better but we are going to continue another 4 weeks of treatment.

I have no expectations that he will live forever, but I am so glad I took the advice of all the kind people here and followed by my heart. Bart is quacking again and making all kinds of noise, doing his Stevie Wonder impression rocking on the perch, and I am beyond delighted.

Thanks guys for the words of advice and encouragement. Our hearts become one with our furry and feathered friends as we make this journey through life together.

Cheers.

2. Yeah! I read the other thread, but didn't respond because I don't know much
about birds -- but he must be happy if he is doing his Stevie Wonder impression! :D

Good for you for following your heart, AK!

4. Your love for him is what saved him
Love is a funny thing to measure and sometimes it isn't enough to save a dear pet, but sometimes its just what is needed. And we who love our pets keep trying in this effort to save them. When it isn't enough we know we did the best we could, when it is, we can rejoice with each other, our pet loving friends.

Thank you for your story.

5. I'm so HAPPY!
You went with your gut - good for you!! I always think that vets (and people doctors) are doing their best, but they only know what the books tell them and they don't know the individuals involved the way we do.

I'm so so so glad that he's doing better! What a relief for you. Give him an extra pet and kind word for me, ok?
