Question about weepy eyes...

I just adopted a sweet female cat from a shelter last Saturday. She had two checkups since she was rescued off the street at the end of November, vaccinations, deworming, FIV & feline leukemia tests and teeth cleaning in January. She is as sweet as she can be, but has constant slow 'snottiness' not copious, but constant from both eyes. She occasionally sneezes maybe once a day, has good appetite, and is affectionate and a good snuggler. Is this something to worry about? She is estimated to be about five years old, was spayed when she was found, was seen by a vet less than 30 days ago and given a clean bill of health. The woman at the shelter said that this has been a chronic thing with her. Any advice?

I think that you should get her to the vet for some tests to determine why she is sneezing and has discharge from her eyes. Keep us posted and good luck with her.

After all these years of being a kitty mommy, I have never dealt with URI. I'll check it out online. I just figured it out--upper respiratory infection!

It's common among cats who have come from shelters - and it's pretty easy to get rid of, especially since she doesn't sound like she has a bad case. Could also be allergies, but your vet will be able to tell which one it is.

an upper respiratory infection in January and took 2 rounds of antibiotics, plus a round of antibiotic eye ointment. I started wiping his eyes with cotton balls soaked in saline, and that seems to help more than anything. The vet told me that sometimes a kitten will get an eye infection and keep it for life, defying treatment, but she didn't go into any details since Tiny is 16 and has only developed this in the past 2 mos.

I'm starting to wonder if my cat has seasonal allergies. Our dog does, and goes through a period in spring and fall where she will sneeze and cough and rub her snout in the grass. It doesn't last a long time.

I checked with the woman who runs the shelter this morning, and my little girl has had two courses of antibiotics ending the week before I picked her up. It may be intractable or it may be allergies. She is better this morning and has a great appetite. I'm just one of those who looks after every detail. I'm going to try the warm saline solution today and check with our vet tomorrow. I appreciate your insights.:hi:
