Advice, please: Hot spots on lab's neck. Any suggestions?
Every summer, my daughters Yellow Lab develops the same hot spots under her collar and on a few other spots on her body. Each year, she is shaved around the underside of her neck to help reduce the irritation.

The problem has started again so she has now been shaved, cleaned w/Peroxide, warn compresses and Bacitracin. She is given a Benedryl tablet to help.

Have any of you had this chronic condition with your dog? How do you cope with it.
The dog is under Vets care for other things and this is what has been advised for years. Someone must know of something else that will help. Please let me know.

2. I think we dabbed betadine full strength on the hot spot
It's been a few years since our dogs had one, but I remember using the betadine and I think the vet gave us some type of ointment as well.

Here's some good info:

3. Try changing to some kind of harness instead of a collar on his neck.
Use 1 part Listerine-the original smelly beigy one with alcohol- to 2 parts water, and spray him all over, including the hot spots. Of course, avoid his eyes. Brush it thru his coat.
This is a wonderful way to cool him down, keep him clean, and the Listerine is a great surface anti-inflammatory. My dog's breeder told me about this.

Sulfadine is also good.

Colloidal silver is also something to look into.

4. Wounded Warrior has worked for me in the past. I don't
know where you can get it except at Mast Stores in (several places) NC and in Knoxville, TN. It's great for humans and pets, all natural, and even though it's expensive, you don't have to use much.
