Kudra update

She's still hanging in. I can tell you I was a bit nervous heading home from work yesterday - wasn't sure what I would find.

We put her in a large crate yesterday morning, one we use when fostering greyhounds, to keep her from being bothered by the other "kids". Put in plenty of food/water - this would give a chance to see if she was eating or not.

Came home yesterday and she was "complaining" a bit, I was relieved to hear that complaint. It looked like a bit of the food was gone - not as much as we would like. I let her out of the crate and she wandered about.

After taking the dogs out, feeding the other cats, and doing other chores. I mixed up a blend of pedialyte and baby food - a little over 1 ounce, used a large syringe and fed her. She didn't struggle, seemed almost anxious to have it. But when I offered it to her to eat on her own - she refused.

I fed her another ounce a couple of hours later - no problem doing it, she didn't struggle.

This morning - she was still with us. Seemed a bit stronger, but still not wanting to eat on her own. Had to give her two pills - and she gave me a bit more of a tussle than yesterday's pill session.

Mixed up another ounce of the pedialyte/baby food and fed her - she didn't struggle, took it right down with no problem. I'll give her another feeding before I go to work.

Her color looks a bit better too. Keeping fingers crossed.

Our thoughts are with you and your sweet kitty. It's very good that she's taking the food, hopefully she'll be eating on her own soon.

she's showing some interest in eating on her own. Last night she licked the spoon for a bit, and this morning ate a little out of her bowl. She didn't eat much on her own, so I fed her the rest through a syringe. BUT there is interest.

She sounds like the congestion has pretty much cleared up. Followup with the vet is friday evening.

Let's hope this trend continues! :hi:

I gave her a jar of turkey-gravy baby food and she ate it on her own.

Yeah, when they're feeling well enough to complain, that's usually a pretty good sign the danger has passed. I'm really happy for you. :hug:

My old lady kitty nearly checked out a month ago and that was how I knew she was going to recover, although it took another two weeks of surgical wound care to make sure. The same is true of humans. When they get grouchy, they're getting better.

She lost a whole pound, though, due to being completely off her feed for days. She's matronly--a low rider--so I didn't go the baby food route, just figured she'd resume her diet when she felt like it. The one thing I kept a close eye on was her fluid intake, and was prepared to go the sub cutaneous route if that dropped.

Now her blood work is fine and she's playful and it looks like I'll have her around for another year or two.

Kudra had followup with the vet last night. She's doing good. Vet thought the pedialyte/babyfood force-feed was good as Kudra actually gained an ounce! we've been feeding her the chicken or turkey babyfood, watered down with pedialyte making it soupy - we now call it chicken soup for cats.

they are extending the antibiotics for an additional 10 days, told us to call back in a week and let them know how she's doing.

this vet clinic is great. we are definitely switch vets! Our new kitten, Pip, has her first appointment on mon 11/3

I'm not saying it's a bad thing at all. She's eaten 3 jars of baby food this morning on her own... YEA!!!!!!

at 22 years old, she can have all she wants
