Bat-wielding man takes his cat back from Dallas animal shelter
Truly a man after my own heart:

DALLAS - Police are investigating after a man walked into Dallas Animal Services with a bat in hand with the aim of getting his cat back home.

Surveillance video showed Roger Booth walking out of the animal shelter with his cat in its carrier and a baseball bat in his hand.

"I went prepared to get the cat one way or the other," Booth said. "I didn't have any intentions of hurting anybody."

Booth said he couldn't afford the $130 fee to get his cat out and didn't want to see the feline put to sleep.

"I didn't have the money to bail my cat out and I knew if I didn't bail him out he would be euthanized in 72 hours," he said.

2. I would think that if he just told them his story that the shelter would've given him
his cat back. I know that my local shelter would've waived the fee for someone whose cat was turned in by the neighbors - provided the cat was otherwise in good condition and the person could assure them that they could care for the cat.

4. Not in Texas!
This was not a shelter, but an animal control facility. Big difference down here.

Our animal control facilites here in good ole Texas operate in the backwoods. If you don't have the money, they don't want to hear anything. Sad story? Too bad. Cough up or the impounded animals die.

The guy is in end stage cancer and another story that I read about this situation quoted a relative who said that the man is very attached to the cat and the kitty was just about all the guy had left to comfort him in his final phase.

Good heavens - let the guy have his cat!

3. If I was on a jury trying him, I would vote to acquit.
Obviously the cat meant a lot to him...I can totally understand.
