A reason to chip your dogs and cats (happy ending)
(True story that happened today 12/06/08)

Today my partner and I were driving home from a movie, on a road that we travel 50% of the time when come home the back way. This route is in a business park next to a residential area. Well, as we turned we saw a old yellow Lab, he was smelling and just kind of wandering. This area is used by a lot of dog walkers so we looked around frantically for an owner and we saw no one.

Well, we turned around and coaxed him into the car, (this was pretty easy because we could tell he was tired). He had pretty bad arthritis in his legs and he was more white than yellow. The old lab found a tennis ball in our car and was quite satisfied just going for a ride with us, he was pretty comfortable. (Of course we had gallon jug of water and water bowls and toys galore)

So we rush up to the local Vet who just happened to be leaving for the day, and asked him for another vet because we found a lost dog. The vet was kind enough to scan the old boy for us, and thank goodness his owners chipped him.

Luckily, the scanner can read chip competitors chip numbers and we contacted the chip maker and they connected us directly to the owner. Whew....

The owner and his family were out looking for "Buck". The were so worried, they had just let him out for a potty break and he never came back in.....

We arranged a meeting with the owner so Buck could go home. We also found out that Buck's dog tag had fallen off the week before, the owners just hadn't had a chance to replace it.

So we meet Bucks owner and he is so grateful and he says, "Can I give you a check for lunch"? And we say no, it was our pleasure to make sure make sure Buck got home, and we would hope that someone would do the same for us if our dogs got lost. We wished each other a "Merry Christmas", and Buck went home!

PLEASE CHIP YOUR ANIMALS!!

3. We felt relieved we were so worried.
We will be donating to the Vet because when a lost pet is found he keeps them until he finds their owners. He refuses to take them to the pound.

2. Such a wonderful story..tragedy averted. That family must feel so
happy that Buck was found by someone who cared enough to do something for him.

 You are good people...
