OK, Bird flu is officially scaring me.

I made a cavalier claim that I wasn't afraid, but other posts have me afraid...not for myself but for my eighteen-year-old Amazon parrot who has been my very best friend for almost half my life. If government officials started euthanizing pet birds, I don't know how I would respond. My gut instinct would be that a member of my family was being attacked and I might react rather...stringently.

Does anyone know how parrots react to this virus? Do they become carriers or do they succumb? Or do some species / individuals become carriers while others succumb?

Viruses are weird customers. Pacheco's virus may not affect a conure, but will kill the conure's Amazon or cockatoo buddy across the room.

Can someone give me information or comfort me or something.

contact? I know that housecats and Tigers are catching it in Asia, but I'm assuming that they are doing so because they've caught an eaten infected birds. Is it airborne? If you keep your birds indoors and don't acquire new ones, wouldn't that keep them safe?

On edit; you might consider buying an Airsource air purifier for your home; it creates a sterile environment. Ask InvisibleTouch for more information; I think he worked for the company (I have one, and have no more allergies because of it).
