Good thoughts needed.
Edited on Fri Jan-08-10 11:46 PM by roguevalley
It has been a bad month for my three remaining dachshunds. My Andrew, blind and sick, died in July and I haven't had the heart to say so here. Now my other three are ill.

Timmy will be sixteen and he's been hurt in a dog fight. He's frail and confused and utterly lost if I am not in his sight. He's losing that too I'm afraid.

Pippin had a heart attack, becoming pained and confused. He has an enlarged heart and his time is running out too.

Now my baby, my late mother's dachshund, Robby, has a mass on his liver. It cannot be taken off and they don't feel that it requires a sonagram yet. We are helping his arthritis. He is thirteen.

I have had them since they were tiny and they are the loves of my life. Andrew and his brother, Tippy, are gone. And now these three are fixing to leave. It is a bitter pill, loving an animal. They are the best guys I know.

1. Sending you peaceful thoughts...
...what can one say?
We wouldn't and couldn't do without them...even though this part of the contract is heartbreaking.
Been there, done that, and will do it again...even knowing what we're in for...it's worth it, is it not?

3. Sending positive thoughts and hugs your way roguevalley
 I'm so sorry to hear about Andrew. I hope you can think about the joy you brought to each other's lives and it will help to ease the sorrow. I know you must be worried to death about your other guys. You are doing all you can to help them and that is all any of us can do. No matter how many years we have with our dogs or cats, it's never enough....

7. For all the pain in the loss of a pet, we'd do it all again a hundred times over
I wish you peace and warm memories. They truly become family members. Not "like family members" but the real thing, with unconditional love and complete trust.

8. So sorry you are going thru such painful times RV. I have lost many pets, and my heart breaks every
time. Each one is unique and has a special place in our hearts.
There is nothing that I could say to make it easier. I have found that only time and tears seem to help. The pain never goes away, just becomes bearable.
I remember the first day...months after my first GSD died...I realized I had gone a few hours without thinking of him....and it was the first sign of healing.

You love them, and they adore you. We could not live without their company. As many as I have lost, and as many times as I have cried...I have never regretted having dogs and cats...and will always want them in my life...

I guess the best you can do is to make their lives as lovefilled and joyous as possible until that final moment...

9. Our pets become part of our family - sometimes even the best part.

When I had to say goodbye to my favorite dog, the Vet said to me "Because of you she had a great life".

Remember that, okay? Those dogs are lucky to have you

Keep us posted.

10. Special thoughts for your babies.
My parents have a 13yo dachshund, Megan, and she too is going blind and deaf and has had a number of issues of late. The my three younger brothers also have dogs, one just lost his rescue baby after a stroke. I lost two birds today, a spice finch, Zoe, and a zebra finch who was only a few months old. I was "proud" I didn't cry when I "buried" them (I place birds in trees so they can fly home).

I wish you good thoughts and happy memories.

If only people could love other people so unconditionally.

11. They love you as much as you love them
and they have loved you their whole lives, too. Like all children they enjoy hearing stories of their own lives and the sound of your happy voice. What a sad situation. Good thoughts for you and your darling family.
