My sister very old horse died tonight.
She is also my next door next door neighbor so my husband was the person who found him. He said he saw him lay down in the paddock, and since he does that a lot, to rest and roll, he didn't think anything of it. When he went back outside and clipper hadn't moved he checked on him and he was dead. I feel so sorry for my sister, even though he was very old you just can't be prepared for it. The cremation people are coming tomorrow morning. It feels really bad just having him covered out in the pasture, but what can you do with an animal that big. We do have wild animals out here, but it is supposed to get in the 30's tonight so I hope they don't scent anything. I don't think I will get much sleep tonight.

1. Death is something we all face, encounter. But only once each.
It's inevitable. It's sad. But a common occurrence and something we must accept. Cats are most dear to me. And I have buried several.
One died at the vet, and the girl at the counter said, sorry to say, he's in the refrigerator. Don't be, says I, he liked the refrigerator. He always tried to get in there. Maybe he knew he would end up there.
Cats can be buried in the back yard. I don't know what most people do with horses. Cremation sounds like a formidable task. But what else can you do.
People too end up in cold storage. Then it's either burial or cremation.
Acceptance and love is the key. I'm old enough to be thankful for every additional day I get to live.

2. Thank you and it is so true.
They took him this morning and it was done in a caring way.

3. I'm sorry.
Its so hard to lose an animal you've taken care of for years.

My old dog died suddenly on a Sunday at noon and there was nowhere I could take him to the next day. So I spent some time saying goodbye and then I laid him on the floor and covered him with a sheet. It was like having a wake in the living room. I was glad for the extra time with him even though he was gone.
