1. I used to live in Chicago and I got a dog at the south side pound
in 1994. Half a dozen rooms there for dogs. What part of the pound would you like to see have a webcam?

3. obviously need a few, but the 2 most important areas,
one would be wherever the intake happens. i guess some of those sights might not be pretty. but people looking for a lost pet would want to see what dogs are coming in.
the second would be the outdoor area where the volunteers exercise the dogs. people looking to adopt a dog would get a chance to check out the temperament of the dogs.

and of course, to get people to notice the whole thing in the first place, ya need one on the puppies.

the larger areas are hard to see the dogs. the other reply here mentions the memphis pound, which shows this type of area and it seems like all bars and no dogs.

2. Good luck with that! Great idea!
On the off chance that you were asking about a webcam, check at www.axis.com
Great cameras, many with internal web servers, just have to give it an ip address with a local cable, open a hole in the router, and power that puppy up, as it were ;)

But for shelter cams...

a selection:

And you might want to search on "doggy daycare webcam" - a lot of those places have examples

5. hey, just kicking this because i had a longer chat with
my alderman about this, and he plans to bring it up with the director of the pound. i need a project, cuz i am studying graphic design right now. and DH is in a position to acquire some good computer equipment. also just talked to my next door neighbor, who is a web guru, and teaches computer science at depaul here. so he is willing to pitch in, and also willing to get some of his students to work on it also.
so, hey, it might work. still looking for good pet cams, whether shelters, private, or wild. the big thing we are looking for is a system for capture and replay of the video. something that the help would only need to give minimal attention, i think.
