Riktor's (not so) Excellent Adventure...
So I get home from work this morning and yell for the monsters like I always do; let them know Mom's home.
"Riktor! D'Artagnan!" Wimsey and Esme were both inside last night, so they're going to be wanting OUT the minute I open the door.
They have 3 litterboxes, so it's not a case of "I gotta PEE!"...
just generally "I've been stuck inside this boring house all night and now I want OUTSIDE, thank you so very much!"

Bouncy bouncy:bounce:...here comes D'Artagnan!
"Hello, Baby Kitty...did you have a nice night out on the tiles? Catch any bunnies?"
Purr purr purr...headbumps and anklewindings. :loveya:
Such a nice greeting...:)

Plod...plod...and here comes Riktor.:hangover:
"Riktor Pye, you look like you've been rode hard and put away wet...did you have a rough night?"
Wait a minute. Riktor's round little face is not symmetrical like it usually is. Gently touch the 'bigger' side.
Aw, CRAP. Riktor's got an abscess, and it's gonna need treated and drained.
"Let me see it, sweetie..."
"Cut it out, Ma...and just leave me ALONE. I don't feel good."
SWIPE with his elegant precise little black paw...he ain't kidding about 'knock it off'.
He didn't connect; he pulled his punch, but the message is clear.

O-KAY..."Hello, Sainted Vet? I know this is short notice, but can I bring Riktor in? I CAN? Thank you so much!"

Time to test-drive the new carrier...Boots and Barkley. Big enough for even Wimsey (15lbs)...
and little 9.5 lb Riktor practically rattles around in it.
He's really feeling poorly...and he has the saddest meow when he wants to tell you this.
"I know, baby, I know. You don't like the vet, but you'll feel so much better when we get that abscess taken care of..."

At the vet, he's both resigned and cooperative. He purrs a bit for Sainted Dr. Sonia...he likes her.
"Eight years old? He doesn't look it."
Time for the thermometer... "Whatever...I really don't care any more." Poor baby has a temp of 105 degrees...:wow::yoiks:.
No wonder he feels lousy...and that swelling on his jaw must really hurt.
Sainted Dr. Sonia tells me that she's going to have to sedate him to drain the abscess, since it shows no sign of breaking on its own. Riktor's going to have to stay there overnight. I pick up Riktor and give him a very gentle cuddle...he relaxes into me while I 'splain all this to him. Then I turn him over to Sainted Dr. Sonia.
"Mom? MOM? MOMMMM!!!! NO DON'T GO AWAY AND LEAVE ME HERE COME BACK PLEASE I'LL BE GOOD WHATEVER IT WAS I'M SORRY MOOOOMMMM!!!" all in the sweetest, most pleading and heartbroken tones he could muster.
I knew I was being played...and that as soon as he knew I'd really left the building he'd quiet down (and they'd be sedating him pretty quickly anyway), but I still had kinda leaky eyes when I left.

Later...
Riktor's fine.
The abscess has been drained, he's gotten some sub-cu fluids and a shot of antibiotics and he's waking up. He's coming home tomorrow and doesn't even need a drain- just needs oral antibiotics starting Wednesday.

I do so wish he didn't feel he had something to prove...
I'll bet that's what happened...he had to prove something and this is the result.
Again. :banghead:

He's OK though...so all's well that ends well, right?

4. Photobucket's been throwing up...
...in a manner of speaking.
Here's a couple of the little rat sweetheart.

I'm learning how to take pictures of my guys with a cheap camera...they don't like the flash and so OF COURSE they close their eyes to it.

Can't say I blame them one bit.

"Tell me you did NOT just take my picture..."

6. Thank you...
Black cats have a disadvantage when it comes to being photographed unless you really know what you're doing and the cat wants to cooperate.

Here's one of Wimsey Whyte-Cat. He reads AMERICAblog with me...

I don't know whether it's because I'm just used to interpreting the subtle changes on the furry little black faces, but Wimsey has the most expressive (and appealing!) face.
He doesn't mind being photographed as long as the lights don't flash in his eyes.
