Doggie DNA test results
We got our dog DNA test results last week, we did the Mars cheek swab variety. Our Layla had one parent that was a full Australian Shepherd and on the other side she had one grandparent that was such a mix that it couldn't be identified as to major breed and the other grandparent was a full Rotweiler! I thought the result was really cool. We had been told she was a Border Collie mix when we adopted her at 8 weeks old from the shelter, but at 10 months I was seeing more of an Aussie like build, though she is only 31 lbs. The Rottie was a real shocker, but still, she is such a muscular little dog that her hind legs (under the tufts of fur) look like we've been adding steroids to the lamb and rice mix, LOL.

2. Thank you
I was holding a stinky liver treat in front of her while I took the picture, so she was excited.

3. She's so cute!! That's really cool that you did the DNA
test....and what a surprise! I can see why the shelter said she was a Border Collie mix. I'm sure she is just as intelligent and what a sweet face. I've always had mixed breed dogs and wondered what mixes they were.

The shelter we adopted Cindy from called her an Australian Shepherd. She weighs 80 lbs now, LOL. Our vet at the time said she looked like a Catahoula Leopard puppy (that's where the vet was from). I looked on-line and sure enough Cindy looks alot like a Cat. Leopard, but a DNA test might tell us something else.

Layla, cute dog and cute name :hi:.

4. Thanks, I am glad we did the DNA
Someone at work wanted to know where I ordered the test because she thinks one of her dogs is a Catahoula Leopard/GSD Mix and wants to find out for sure. Her other dog is an Aussie and she had Layla pegged from the time I showed her a puppy picture when she was very small. When Layla destroyed a chair she told me her Aussie destroyed an entire couch one time, LOL! Seems they can chew, I have a guaranteed indestructible dog toy, which lasted a day, that I need to return for a refund this week.

5. Buy her a boomer ball! Layla will love chasing it and they are
indestructible. http://www.boomerball.com/

We also have an Australian Cattle Dog - probably a mix. He doesn't care for the boomer ball (probably because I didn't buy the right size for him), but Cindy loves hers. She has jaws of steel and this ball has been hers since 2004. She has put some scratches on it, but there is no way she can tear it apart. It was worth the cost, imo. I bought Cindy the 10" size, you will probably want to buy a smaller one.

7. I have seen the test kit in my local Kroger grocery's
pet food department here in North Georgia. I have been thinking about buying it, but it is over $50. I have what I think is a Mini Pin mixture. She has a Mini Pin head but her body is less stocky.

8. I bet she's cute!
I tried NOT buying it because I could think of so many better things to spend money on, but it just nagged and nagged at me, wanting to know what made Layla who she was and I finally decided if I wanted to know that darn bad it must be worth it, LOL.

When we got her, and I started investigating border collies online I got scared to death, and that was another reason, what if this angel I was in love with would be miserable with us? I came to realize that even if she were a BC Mix she seemed to be fine with the stimulation we were giving her (and we really have been making lots of effort), so that started to matter less, but the curiosity remained.

There's a guy down the street from us that walks a min-pin every morning, in the winter he always had on a little coat, sooooo cute!

Maybe I will try the Mars test since I thought mine was Aussie, but that breed did not show up at all!
Your dog is very cute.
