if i believed in miracles, i would have to say
that i received one today.

i had to take my very nervous terrier to the vet this morning. i took her sister along, since she is a lot more calm. after that harrowing experience, i took them to the park for a cheeseburger. rags was really not in the mood for that. she is not really fond of leaving the house.
i let their leashes drag as they walked along, but i wasn't really worried. they are very good little dogs, and always come running when i call. all was fine until we headed back to the car. which she is also not the fond of. if she could she would ride under my seat.
well, she got to the gateway of the park, the car was right there, she smelled what was coming i am sure. and off she went.

i ran after her for a block or so, but she was already 3 blocks ahead of me. there was a guy on the sidewalk who saw her run by. he joined my chase for a half a block, then insisted we get in his car. we drove around for nearly half an hour, asking everyone. we had her trail for a few blocks, then lost it.
now, this dog is not used to walks, etc, because she hates them. there was not a snowballs chance that she would find her way home. no one would be able to get ahold of her because she doesn't like people. i figured she would run for a while, then hide. i was pretty sure i would never see her again.

he drove me back to my car, i drove around for a while, then headed home to get my bike. within a minute of waking in the house, my phone rang. it was my new best friend trevor. he had her.
she was nowhere near where she was last seen, and had to have crossed some very busy streets, something about which she has no clue. she also probably went right by the house. she had run over a mile.
trevor had activated his network to find her, and had even called the cops. he must have a friend there, because i had stopped one and he said he hadn't seen her, but he had heard about her on the radio. don't think the chicago police do much about lost dogs.

amazingly, aside from a little wear and tear on her pads, she was fine. she had been hiding under a car. how she was spotted there, i have no idea.

i tried to get trevor to tell me what he drank so i could buy him a bottle. he only said he drank liquor and had plenty in his bar. but i intend to get a nice bottle of scotch for him whether he likes it or not.

holy shit.

2. you know, i did pay it forward this spring.
someone gifted me a big bunch of heirloom seeds. i had a whole lot of seedlings and gave them to some good causes. so, he paid to me, and i sent it on.
if the shoe had been on the other foot, i would have done the same. i sure don't have that kind of network, tho.

and btw, he has a very nice bottle of scotch waiting for him when he gets home.

3. Holy shit, indeed. I am so glad that you found your furball.
And I would not let your new friend Trevor get lost in the past. Sounds like someone you hold on to.

Good stories----we need more of them.

PS: Do NOT take that dog out without holding onto the leash. But I am sure you do not need this advise.
