How did your pets react to today's east coast quake?
I expect west coast dogs, like west coast people, deal with quakes differently than our east coasters.

I was sitting in the kitchen, alone, having a late lunch when it hit. Immediately before, I realize in retrospect, the dogs were acting oddly. The Border Collie sat under my chair. She simply never does that. Not ever. The GSD was right next to her. The Shih-Tzu (poo poo pez dispenser that she is) was in the den, a few feet away, in her crate, making a funny sound, almost like a cat noise. This was maybe 5 minutes before it happened. The GSD started pacing as if she wanted to go out, but paced between the two other dogs - very odd, indeed.

When the quake hit, I just sat there, startled. It took nearly all the way through it for me to realize what was going on. (Who expects a quake in Maryland??) Then, upstairs, a pair of skis fell. The noise was remarkably loud. I went upstairs. The dogs followed, but now seemed far more normal and in their usual defensive/protective posture. Then they went back to normal as I made the expected calls to everyone and got calls from others.

I never saw the cats until later. They were sleeping. As usual. :)

How did your dogs act? Did they know it was coming?

2. My dogs did nothing unusual
We didn't feel it up here in northcentral PA. We got both dogs when we lived in S. California and we felt many tremors there. I guess the dogs got used to it, because they didn't do anything unusual there either. I say "unusual" because the ACD is normally very alert and jumpy so I didn't see anything unusual in his behavior.
