My Molly
She is 6 years old. Came down with intravertebral disk disease when she was 5. We hoped that surgery would allow her to walk again, but after over a year, seems not to be. She does fine in her wheels, going for walks in the park which is one of most favorite things to do.

Look at that face!

Autumn, my favorite season

5. Thanks . . . .
When we rushed her to the animal hospital, the first option was to put her to sleep. My husband and I said in unison that is not an option. I assume they ask because the surgery and hospital stay is so expensive, unfortunately. We scraped up the money somehow. Molly was in the hospital 5 days. It was such an emotionally draining time.

Sometimes the look on her face says she is wondering what is going on. It breaks my heart.

We also have 2 Abyssinian cats that kinda keep her company when she is not in the cart.

3. I grew up with a Dachsie too.
He was one hell of a dog, and very brave. When he slipped a disc (I was 7 years old) the vets all told us to put him to sleep because this was the early 60's and that's all they had to offer. My mother wisely brought him back home to us. He had so much pluck! If the doorbell rang, he'd drag himself to the door to bark as usual. His will to go on was just tremendous. We 'walked' him by holding his back legs up with his front ones on the ground like a wheelbarrow. My dad would massage the area od his back just about 3 inches forward from his tail. One day, he raised his tail just for a second but it was enough for us to tel that "messages" were getting through. About 2 months after that, he was trying to use his back legs. He finally could walk. He went through this 3 times in his life, and each time he recovered. Each time the vets told us he'd never walk. Moral of the story? Vets don't know everything although they know a lot. Much depends on the indiviual animal just like it does with humans. Your Dachsie looks happy! Luckily I don't think animals have the same kind of angst humans do about these things and for them that's a blessing.
