September 2009 Prayer, Light and Healing Requests

Ojibwa Prayer

Oh Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds
And whose breath gives life to everyone,
Hear me.
I come to you as one of your many children;
I am weak; I am small; I need your wisdom and your strength.
Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever
Behold the red and purple sunsets.
Make my hands respect the things you have made,
and make my ears sharp so I may hear your voice.
Make me wise, so that I may understand what you
have taught my people and
The lessons you have hidden in each leaf
and each rock.
I ask for wisdom and strength,
Not to be superior to my brothers, but to be able
to fight my greatest enemy, myself.
Make me ever ready to come before you with
clean hands and a straight eye,
So as life fades away as a fading sunset,
My spirit may come to you without shame.

1. Beautiful Ojibwa prayer... very comforting to me tonight.
I have a situation coming up tomorrow night at my church. One of the ministers is leaving suddenly and I can tell by the angst on my facebook pages that it may be a very confrontational deal with the congregations council members. They have invited those interested in learning more to come in to their meeting tomorrow night and ask questions.

I love both our ministers but apparently they have been having trouble that no one was aware of and it has come to the newest one deciding to move on. Or so I have gleaned.

What I ask is that peace and wisdom and cooler heads prevail tomorrow and that the many good people who show up remember why we have chosen to be together as a congregation in the first place.

I find this place to be almost as comforting as my church home.I am fortunate in having found both. Hopefully both will remain in my life.

3. I don't think that you could have said it any better, rosie.
"...that the many good people who show up remember why we have chosen to be together as a congregation in the first place."

May you all get through this so that you heal quickly and easily, and may all parties concerned learn from the situation so that it never happens again. (This or something better for the highest good of all involved.)

I'm so sorry that this is happening. It's so difficult when it happens in a spiritual home. :(

5. Thank you IHAD...
It is hard to see people jumping to conclusions... knives seemingly drawn and not knowing the whole story. Our senior minister is an amazing person but I do think people are more ready to decide it's her decision and problem as she is quite strong willed. And I would be surprised if it were but there you have it. Will wait and see what transpires and will try to keep my own head cool. I've never belonged to a church before and this is my 15th year here.

14. Uggggh.
It was awful. Just awful. People were well-behaved but to my mind, they didn't see the heart of the matter and were focusing on what I perceive as 'the lie' by the one leaving and were close to blaming the one remaining for his leaving and not even seeing the unlying deception at all. It's all about the lie and betrayal to the community in my view but I am in the minority. Critical thinking is not something being used at this point with the problem.

I am just heartsick about this.

7. Still requesting healing for our county Democratic group.
There is so much dissension that it makes me uneasy much of the time. It damages my health and my sleep.

Maybe I am the only one who is this sensitive to it? I don't know. But we all need to treat each other better.

9. Much light coming your way...
It's hard when a group loses it's focus. May they work thru the differences quickly for the greatest possible good. And may you find some peace with the process and get the needed rest so you can work effectively with the others to bring about the changes needed.

And don't forget to load up on your B vitamins as they are the first to get used/depleted in your system whenever there is any stress.

10. Please hold a good thoughts
for my parents. My dad still wasn't getting better at the nursing home--still feeling bad and not eating or drinking. My mom got tired of nothing happening so she ordered them to take him to the hospital Sunday night--woe to the fool that didn't say, "Yes, ma'am!" She has to walk with two canes, and she said that she'd balance on one cane and break the other over someone's head if they didn't do what she wanted. The gods know that he has been a sorry father and husband (mom was too scared to leave, but that's another story) and deserves his fate, but no one should be just left uncared for in a place that is in business to do so. Even David Duke deserves that much.

Rant aside, we heard from the specialists, a kidney and GI and they're running tests to find what's really wrong. The soccer team will have to make it without me tonight. :(

13. Thanks much
but I got a "can you come out, one of the other guys can't make it" text earlier. I re-checked the schedule, and it's an early (7:30) game, so that's good. I said that I'll play. I need to confirm if this will be my last game with my old team or not; this will be the acid test. Either way, it'll be my last season and then I'll go to the Over-30 League. I'm not looking forward to it, mainly because because of the medical issues and I hadn't planned on playing--not a good sign, but I'll give it my level best. I'm a competitor, and my team has changed over time, and they aren't.

We'll see how it goes later. :hi:

I put my sister on the prayer thread last time requesting prayers because she was in a terribly emotionally abusive job situation that finances wouldn't let her walk away from (and at a breaking point). She got an offer for a new job on Friday and has accepted. I am so grateful.

27. Remember my friend who was having surgery the same day as her daughter?
Her daughter is doing great, thanks for all the good vibes, but my friend's incision is "weeping" or leaking or something and if it doesn't heal in the next couple of weeks they may have to go back in and see what's causing it. So please send her good healing vibes. I'm hoping she won't have to have a second surgery.

She is having to go back in for surgery next Tuesday so they can find out what exactly the problem is that is preventing her from healing propertly.

Her younger daughter is still healing just fine. Her older daughter is going in on Tuesday as well to be evaluated, because she has many of the same symptoms and may need the same surgery.

30. Look at it from the perspecitve of the right thing at the right time
Stop comparing your life to everyone else's. Let go of the past and live in the now. What can you do to make a change now? The more you wallow the worse it will get and then you will find that your thirties are "wasted" too.

32. there is no such thing as wasted time
Edited on Thu Sep-03-09 05:28 PM by northernlights
except, maybe, staying bitter about prior choices. Whatever you were -- or were not -- doing is over. Your choices today -- to feel bitter or to learn -- are all that there is. It's ok to feel the bitterness -- to acknowledge it, recognize it, own it. But then let it go, or it will define your now.

My 20s were "wasted" in that I spent most of it in clinical depression, in therapy, without a career or decent job, dating 2 men who were really bad for me. I also healed some wounds, discovered Carlos Castaneda, and had some amazing shamanic experiences as a result of reading out them.

And when I turned 30, I found a career and a direction I hadn't had before, gave up on men and returned to horses, and discovered a group of friends that introduced me to much of the new age system.

In my 40s, my friends parted ways, but my career took off and I freed myself from debt and was well on my way to a secure retirement (one of the small percentage who's savings was 'on track.'

My 50s have also been "wasted." I've lost my career, my entire retirement fund, my identity (literally stolen by a former colleague using inside info), and my dream, and I've been forced to take on debt. I also learned to be really totally alone, learned medicinal herbs, gardening, very basic carpentry, got 2 companion dogs, found purpose even in a minimum wage sandwich shop, and am hopefully on track for a new career with more meaning. Oh, oops, and found a new set of new ager friends at ASAH ;)

38. I understand your feelings, BI.
I got married quite early (18), and after 8 years of marriage, got divorced. At the time, I felt as though I had wasted my youth. Of course, it turned out that I hadn't, but our feelings are our feelings; they are what they are.

I will definitely send you light to help you to deal with your feelings in reference to this situation. I hope that you are able to successfully overcome these feelings so that you can instead focus on what good you can glean from this time. I suspect that you'll find that you have built a very strong base upon which you can build a wonderfully successful future. (At least that is what I'm visualizing for you.)

42. Just reading this bit, it's clear that there are so many ways to waste your 20s
I, too, feel like I wasted my 20s. By marrying the wrong guy, vainly pursuing a few different careers, then getting divorced.

I watch "Friends" regularly and wonder why my 20s weren't more like that? Although, when I think of the plot of that series and look at what I've written about my own experience, it appears on the surface as if it was.

The difference is in having friends you can count on. I agree with what others have posted here. Everything happens for a reason. I hope you can find a way to free yourself from the bitterness over the past because it can infect your present if you let it. I hope you find a way to cultivate some good friends who will be there for you in your 30s. I think it gets harder and harder to make good friends as you get older, so now's the time to start.

Sending you such good vibes as I can muster to help you past this hurdle. Good luck!

31. Request prayers regarding a spike in my blood pressure
Went to the doc today and it was pretty high (165/110). This could be for a couple of reasons: someone tried to break into my house last night and I've been feeling sick for about a week (and the incident didn't help). In any case, they want me to monitor it for a week and then call them back. So perhaps prayers that I find the underlying cause and tackle it?

33. a practical suggestion
There are several common vegetables that have been used medicinally in various cultures (and have demonstrated in clinical studies) to lower blood pressure. From James Dukes "The Green Pharmacy:"

Celery (as few as 4 stalks/day)
Garlic (1 clove/day or 1 capsule if you hate the food)
Tomato (he doesn't give a quantity, but they contain 7 compounds known to lower bp)
Carrot (same as tomato, but 8 bp-reducing compounds)
Fennel, oregano, pepper, basil, tarragon (each has 6+ compounds that lower bp)

36. I could use some help myself
in overcoming my internet addiction. It started as a pasttime, to give me a break now and then, and in ASAH to converse with people about a topic that we can't discuss much in the ordinary world. It's become an escape.I've been neglecting my critters. Not physically -- they're all fed, watered, cleaned up after and healthy. But hey're not getting the attention they need. The fallout peaked earlier this evening when I left Jake and Luna outside to play, and stepped outside in time to see Jake running almost into the road charging at a semi. I screamed bloody murder at the top of my lungs -- he didn't go into the road and wasn't hit. But it's my fault for not watching them. The warning signs have been there...he's been pushing limits and pushing limits to get my attention. But I just escape here because it's the closest thing I have to human contact.

I also need very much for the financial aid office to get off their duffs and disperse my loans. I got the form letter today advising me that the money was dispersed on 8/21. No it was not. My account there is now past due, and I don't have the leftover money I need to get me through the next week, never mind the semester.

I'm dreading my new job. But I have no choice and I know it. I don't feel like I belong in this place any more, but no other doors have opened. I wasn't dreading school, but I am now. There have been several surprises sprung on us, from medical requirements to lab schedule, all of which are starting to overwhelm me.

So I didn't even need to wait until the week of 9/17-23 to find out the nightmare in store for me. Thurs am I have my 1st hemotology exam & my first urinalysis lab, so I'm doing the lab from 8-12 and then the exam immediately after and then running home to care for the animals before going to work. OR I'm doing the lab from 8-12 and then working that night, and the exam with a proctor on Friday, 9/18 and then working that night, and then a full day lab, 8-4:30 on Saturday 9/19. It's all a mess, and nonstop.

So I also need it all sorted out so I can just move forward. Or to win the lottery so I can just move on ;)

41. northernlights, I'm sorry that your furry buddies are having...
a difficult time dealing with you not giving them as much time as you have in the past. I do have to say that I think that you really need to get the interactions that you get here. This is your oxygen mask that allows you to continue to function to be able to do what needs to be done in the rest of your life, including caring for them. It's very clear that Jake and Luna are the loves of your life, but they can't give you everything that you need. (Even another human can't give us everything that we need usually.)

I will say a prayer on your behalf asking for assistance in helping you to find a healthy balance in reference to all of the balls that you currently have in the air.

45. Would somone please pray for my mom?
She has alzheimers and isn't doing too well. It's starting to look like she'll have to go to a nursing home soon -- something I promised my dad before he died I would only do as a last resort. If anyone has any soothing, healing energy to send, and prayers to keep this horrible disease from completely destroying her, it would be appreciated.

Thank you so much!

I ask for help with my exercise program

I joined the Y to exercise and help me get in shape and lose weight.

I do 35 minutes on the treadmill at a max of 3.0 mph and then I go home and sleep for fourteen hours.

Next day i get up and go to the gym and do my circuit, light weights, 15 reps, go home and sleep for fifteen hours. I wonder when this is gonna stop.

If I had a job I would be in real trouble.

62. Update
After 2 weeks in the hospital, dad is back in the nursing home. The tests found an intestinal infection, but they could not find where he was leaking blood. CT scans and colonoscopy and GI scans were inconclusive. He's feeling better and can start on physical therapy.

I found an Over-30 soccer team in Division II. It was a whole different game playing with a skilled team and much better for me. I had a good game with them, so they invited me back. I'll play with both for this season, then become a regular for O-30, and I'll be a reserve, i.e. call me if you're shorthanded, for the co-ed team.

Maybe that will let up some of the pressure on you and your mother. I hope that he continues to improve and that the doctors are able to determine the true cause of his problem.

63. May I have some supportive energy please?
..and yes, it sorta does have to do with my work; but not exactly. Without going into the whole story here right now; there is a...challenge..that I came across last night that has existed in my life on and off for over 10 years. This challenge is in the form of a particular person and their behavior at work towards me. The result of their behavior leads to a very unproductive (monitarily) and upsetting night for me, because this person follows me around and poaches customers; telling them she is me or that I am her (we have some similar features). This person has been fired from every other club in the area for....nefarious activities; shall we say. The result of this situation almost always leaves me feeling inadequate and powerless and blaming myself for not being a better hustler and seeing this coming.

I am sure this is in my life for a reason; but I do not know if it is because *I* am supposed to learn a major lesson; or that *she* is - maybe both. Either way; I need to end this lesson soon..it's making me feel horrible about myself and as much as I try to change that, it is very hard to do so. Could you all please send me some supportive energy so that I can try to deal with this in the most positive way possible? Thank you....

65. I'm sorry that this is happening, lildreamer.
Please don't feel bad that you're not able to stoop to her level. You take light with you while you work. It's difficult for one who walks in the light to see the world the way someone who doesn't walk in it sees it. Please don't allow her to pull you down. Please continue to hold your light and shine it throughout the day regardless of what she does. I'm asking for the Universe to help you to resolve this situation without drama and for the highest good of all involved, and I'm asking for the Universe to help you to stay in balance and centered during this time. Keep shining your light and draw to you beings and situations that resonate with that vibration.

You can do it!

70. Please send anything you can muster to my SO.
Edited on Sat Sep-19-09 10:37 PM by Avalux
The past couple of weeks have been very difficult. My SO's mother is terminally ill and has declined treatment; it's only a matter of time (and not much time) until she is gone. She lives quite a distance away and although my SO knows he must visit he has been putting it off and I am so worried he won't get there in time to say his goodbyes and will regret it for the rest of his life.

Please help him find a way to put his fear aside and visit his mother, even though he is afraid to face it.

Also, if it's not too much to ask, send light and healing to his mother and entire family.

Thank you.

76. Prayer/healing request for a friend
Edited on Tue Sep-22-09 02:43 PM by get the red out
A good friend of mine has injured her hand working and has had surgery, but the Doctors are afraid her hand still may not heel correctly, she is not currently able to work and may have to get a lawyer to fight insurance companies to give her lost wages since she is self-employed. I thought I would add her to the prayer list here since after adding my sister something dramatically good happened to help in her situation.

Thank you guys!

if it approaches emotional overwhelm I will email or call my therapist but right now it just hurts almost physically in the heart area. at the same time there is a sense of relief as the pain drains away. if I don't clear it out now it will just contine to weigh me down while skewing and exacerbating my reactions to current events so I am glad to have it come out and not try to numb and freeze myself as in the past.

81. I have a request for the father of a friend of mine.
He was badly injured about a week and a half ago in a motorcycle accident. He was initially pronounced brain dead, but thankfully, they got another opinion, and that doctor said, no, he just has a lot of brain swelling. This man is doing a lot better now, though he still has a long way to go in his recovery. I would like to ask for prayers, vibes, good thoughts, etc., for D, who lives in the Seattle/Tacoma area, for healing, and also for his family, for comfort and peace.

95. Good news
Although I'll need surgery, the knee is not as bad as my primary care doctor feared.

It appears to be a tear in the MCL (a much easier ligament tear to heal), plus a few other comparatively minor issues (one of which, a loose bone chip, warrants the surgery, though once in there they'll clean up/repair everything they find amiss). I'm still looking at a few more months of recovery, ligaments being what they are, but it will take maybe a quarter of the time, and with half the pain, than I had been bracing myself for.

Today I am mostly tired and nauseous but able to eat several very small meals and keep it down along with extra probiotics. If anything happens again i will go to the doctor but with it acting like a short lived stomach flu, other than the fainting which I admit scared the dickens out of me, I think I am OK other than the aggravated chronic neck/low back stuff.
