** HELP!** I need help finding my pregnant KITTY -
Her name is Atreyu, we also call her 'the muffin'...she is about 10 mos old and a pretty little calico wth white paws and chest.

I broke my own rule yesterday and now it looks like I may have lost her.
Been keeping her inside because I knew she was getting close to birthing, but everytime I thought it was going to happen "today" i was wrong... so I let her out yesterday morning to go potty, and she hasn;t come back!

My kids are going to freak out on me, I am totally heartbroken... if the coyotes got her in her vulnerable state ... oh no!

Is she holed up somewhere giving birth and okay?
Is she under our house or a neighbor's shed?
Is she in a tree & stuck somewhere...?

We live in Tahoe...lots of danger for our little baby girl...but I am hoping her instincts will be the winning factor and she is just being a wild kitten and will come home carrying baby kittens when she is ready...she has never been the wanderer, she always hangs out close to home, but now? :(

please let me know what impressions you get... i have been looking for her in the meadow near our house, and even under the crawlspace of the empty house across the street and the under the next door neighbors' toolshed...

1. Well, I'm not getting a "bad" feeling. My first thought:
"Under the porch." May or may not be helpful to you.

3. I think she has.
fwiw . She is okay now, but please keep looking for her. She does need you. Maybe meditate a bit and take a bath, letting it all go from your mind. The answer will come to you.

4. I just put on my sweats and tennis shoes and walked 3 blocks...
The kids at the other end of our block say she hangs out in the corner house yard...couldn't get too close to look under the porch, everyone is still asleep...

So I'm gonna make some flyers, asking our neighbors to keep a lookout for my mama & babies so I can come get them and take them home!

Got the box all ready...so let's visualize her IN her little nest, safe at home in momma's room...

8. oooh, that pic reminds me of my Rosie Posie.....

who passed over a year ago at 17.

I'll have her and my other sweet kitty, Jack, who passed within six weeks of Rosie, look out for Atreyu and babies.

I'm sure there's an army of fur-babies in pure angel form now who are looking over Atreyu.

BTW, does Atreyu mean something in another language that you know of? It's such a lovely, lovely name.....

More hugs to mamma and babies -- and human mamma, too!

9. Well, I actually adopted her ... or she, us
The house of batchelors across the street, she belonged to one of the guys' ex's ...and was kind of a lost baby in a house of partying boys and dogs...
so my kids befriended her,

onc she came inside one night when the boys were gone and she was in heat and we were worried the coyotes would get her...she made this her newhome base...she was only 7 or 8 mos old when she found us..and that was spring...

we even asked the guys if they minded and they were like "oh, good...she founbd some kids to play with"

so she has been my little baby girl kitten for a while now, I am her protector

Atreyu is the name of the Hero in the film/story "Never Ending Story"

i just want her home!

10. I also didn't get any 'bad' feelings.
Since this is her first litter, she has no conscious memory of being pregnant or delivering kittens (I do think they retain such memories), so she wouldn't have realized she needed to stick close to home. She may have been so happy to be outside after being kept in that she may have wandered a bit further than usual.

I also have the 'feeling' that she has delivered the kittens, and am thinking she wandered somewhere nearby, but too far away to get back home when labor began and her instincts kicked in. I think she's holed up somewhere with her babies. I see her under something, like others have said, maybe a porch, or under a table or bench in a shed. Putting up posters is a great idea, because sooner or later, one of your neighbors is going to hear the kittens mewing and will make the connection if they've seen the poster.

Maybe try to pick a fairly quiet time of day in your neighborhood and take a walk in a several block radius around your home. Leave the kids home and go alone so you can focus your hearing ONLY on listening for tiny mews. She does need you, but is likely torn about what to do -- leave the kittens and come find you? Instinct is warning her not to do that. Or stay put and wait for you? Her heart wants to find you, but I don't think she will leave her kittens right now. She is going to be very quiet herself right now (instinct again), so my best advice is to see if you can hone in on the kittens. Walk slowly and stop often. Focus all your intent on hearing them, and try to filter out anything else.

Good luck! I think you'll find her, or she will bring the babies home to you as soon as she is able. My heart goes out to you. I know how you must feel! Been in similar situations many times myself...

It also occurs to me to ask the neighbors who originally had her. And, this sounds silly, but have you checked in all the closets in your own house?

14. yes...done both, (but the boys really don't really give a crap...)
okay, traced a map from the google maps on the screen...

went and took the crystal & angel on a raibbow string that used to hang on MY staff when I was Pregnant with my babies!
...asked test questions to establish which way the thing swung for yes & no

-did she have her babies? yes
-will I find her before midnight? yes
-is she in any danger? no

the pendulum & map say she is under the shed right over the fence from my bedroom, (Diane, the neighbor is a day-sleeper with a wierd schedule...so we have to figure out how to check over there.) Teenager saw her come out from under there about a week ago, like she had been sleeping under there...so that must be the nest! or...it circled around two houses, mostly the one w the shed, another one that is abandoned and had a doggie door into a garage full of hoarder clutter hell...which we could probably unlock the door, but that could be bad...

any ideas...? should I just hop the fence and be brazen or knock on the door & wake her up...hmmm

15. Well, I'm not shy
when it comes to my kitty. The first time he went through some holes from my duplex garage to the neighbors garage, which I wasn't SURE had happened, I knocked on the door, crying, to ask her to open her garage. But she wasn't a day sleeper.

Why wake her? If you can go over and check? I used the find lost items on decoz.com (you might try that) and it indicated a closet or near "foot gear". So, that sounds like the hoarder clutter hell is a real possibility.

40. Slightly OT, but I just tried decoz a few days ago from a link you put
on another thread.

I've been missing my fave moonstone ring for months now. Decoz said it would be near kitchen tools. My husband found it on the floor under the furniture in the living room, on the side closest to the kitchen.

That site seems to work! Thanks!

16. Two things:

If the neighbor isn't likely to call 911 if she hears noise, just go over there and check! I would. :)

Second, she's a mama now and you know how we are: we move heaven and earth to take care of our babies. I have no doubt Atreyu (now I know why the name sounds familiar :)) and her babies are all safe.

Can't wait to see pictures!

If someone saw her over there last week, then you have a good excuse for doing so under the circumstances. IMO anyhow. Better to have her upset over being awakened than upset over trespassing. ;)

I'm hoping that's where she is! :)

20. okay, took a flyer
next door and wrote a personal note on it for the neighbor...

(there is a note on the window of the "abandoned house" and it says there is a lawful tenant there and if anyone tries o tresspass they will call the police, but it could be a sham, cuz there is NEVER any life over there...creepy haunted type place...i doubt she is there, she's not that stupid)

i tried the numerology reading, and it said someone close to me will return it, either someone very old or very young... my kids are always playing in the tree between our houses and the shed, and the neighbor there is an older lady...

*fingers crossed* all I can do now is Pray, really

24. I'd say probably about a week to 10 days at least...
She probably won't want to move the babies until their eyes are open. They'll be stronger by then and not so fragile. She might wait longer, but I'd think it would depend on how safe she feels wherever she is, and how difficult it's going to be to move them. They usually do this (move kittens) when they're fairly small, though, and before they start trying to walk so that the ones left in the nest will be safe while she's transporting the others.

I'm praying you find her sooner than that, though! I think you will.

28. I agree.
And yes, feel better! She's fine, I'm sure. I've lost kitties for weeks at a time and they came back (not that I think she'll stay away for weeks). But believe me, I KNOW how awful it feels.

Another suggestion, if no none else has suggested it: You might want to give your local SPCA a call, on the off-chance that she might have been picked up and taken to a shelter or the pound. They've helped me locate lost kitties several times. It can't hurt to check, and then they will at least know to be on the look-out for her. We've done that, and they called us once when they thought they'd found our kitty later on at the pound. Sure enough, it was him! He was fine. A bit pissed off and freaked out, but otherwise just fine. He's asleep in a little basket (favorite curl-up snuggly spot) on the table behind me right now. :)

29. Had her milk come in before she got out?
Did she look kinda swollen around the "dinner plates" (an old family joke, btw) in the day or two before she got out? If so, I'm betting you have kittens someplace and that mama cat is holed up with them for a day or two.

If you can't find out where she's hidden them, I'd strongly suggest putting out a bowl of good quality dry food (preferably kitten chow for it's higher protein content) and a big bowl of fresh water. It is hungry work to feed those babies, and anything you can do to help mama out with that is gonna result in a stronger bunch of kitties.

The added bonus with this plan is that you may spot mama while she's having a snack or a drink and then you can maybe track her back to her nest of babies. I'd not try and move them, in most cases, because mom cats can be pretty picky about those newborns. However, if they are in a place that just is not safe (low lying and prone to water or open to predators, for example) you can make sure they are all safe by moving them all into the house and keeping them there.

Good luck! I hope everybody does well!

31. It's normal for cats to find a secluded spot to give birth
and that's what I think is happening. You might not see her for a little while but I think she'll be okay. I don't think she went far. You might try putting food and water out in the daytime - when you can keep an eye on it to make sure it's not attracting other animals.

35. that's funny..I have a cold
and the left side is totally plugged, my ear is bad & I can't HEAR shit! so it makes sense that I am leaning a little to the left trying to listen for her! lol

the left of us is the boys who party and have recently built a skateboard ramp in the backyard...i doubt she'd be under that. however, if staqnding on the street and looking at our house, the laft side is the house/shed I have been getting hits on with the pendulum.
It is really hard because i am asking my teen to go out and listen for noises and mews, but he is, well, a teen...

so we shall see ... i think she wuill have to move them/bring them home before a week passes because they will get mobile and she won;t be able to safely leave them...hopefully she is getting enough food by either hunting or a friendly neighbor (i guess they also eat the placenta, etc...so maybe that is enough to get her through a few days...)

I am learning more about the survival instinct than ever! kitties have been birthing for thousands of years, i am sure she will be okay...and praying to send her light & love

My kitty hides under one shed or another, or the outside steps, when she strays afield or when Luna is annoying her too much. Yours will have sought an equally hidden and inaccessible place to have her kittens.

I miss my little fluffy white kitty tummy & chin, I miss her little pink & orange nose, i miss her chewing my hand  I have been going to sleep thinking about her laying in her spot next to my feet purring... I know she will want to come home soon - - if she can... just trying to keep her alive in the house and not get used to her NOT being here.

I left the back door to the garage ajar so she can hide the babies in there if she comes homes and we are all asleep... i also left my car window down so she could hide in there too... and left a small handful of food in the dish on the lawn...
hope the bear stays away tonight!

PLease
keep visualizing folks, and please tell me if you can "see" her at all...
it feels like I am "too close" and my pendulum and everything in my intuition is just OFF...

47. I've been following your saga
Hopefully Mama will come home soon. And if last night was cold then she was there providing much needed heat for her little ones.

I realize how difficult it must be given your condition (your cold symptoms) and Mama not returning, but I feel as though she will return before too much longer. I've been sending Light and Loving Protection to everyone involved.

I wouldn't be surprised if she had a litter of 3 little kittens. At least all of the mama's I've had the experience to be around have always had 3.

I think I felt 3 in her belly, too...3 is the number I thought of...

i keep seeing her just walking up on the front lawn as easy as you please carrying a white/gry one in her mouth.
...of course cats are sooo nonchalnt, like we hoomins are so silly for freaking out and saying "where have you BEEN!?"
and they are all "what? what's your problem?"

no sign yet this morning, it's 45 degrees...

49. Yes, 3...
I think so, too. First litters are often 3 kittens.

I am still visualizing her safe and sound and returning to you soon. :) Sending love and light.

Is there forest around your home? My dog once ran away when he was young. I lived out in the country on a ridgetop at that time. I prayed to the spirits of the forest to guide him home safely. I sat in meditation and visualized him running through the trees, being guided by the forest spirits and returning to me. He did.

52. No...she's nowhere to be found
not under the shed next door, not in or under the empty house across the street, not in the hoarders hell abandoned place behind us... i keep trying not to worry and praying to all the devas and cat angels to protect her.

the racoons decided a few scraps of food out front were worth hanging out on the front porch...so I had to shut the garage and my window

the party boys she used to belong to are having a real hum dinger tonite, i'm sure the noise will keep her away

gonna try and go for a walk again in the morning, went out this morning up 3 blocks and all over calling and shaking the food bag

my health is not getting any better and the kids have me on my last thread( i snapped on them tonite and really feel bad about thatb too, it is not the type of behavior I am proud of), I feel like I am falling apart and this heartbreak is just making it worse...I haven;t been sleeping well because I keep trying to listen for her,

the kids are acting up too...surely they are feeling the stress, though they seem pretty convinced she isn;t going to move them till they are a week old...that could be wednesday!

ug...gotta try and ground, and i just need a freaking vacation from LIFE
i want to at least know my baby is safe so I can not feel like a failure in ALL aspects of my parenting!

I'm sorry that you're stressing so -- and that nasty cold you've had only magnifies it all. I still get that she's okay, and she'll be back -- was honestly getting that she would be back yesterday because she would be looking for a warm place for her kittens to stay.

Will keep sending light and love to you all.

She is the homebody, she is never the one to be gone for a whole night, let alone 5

...and with my stupid ear still plugged up, i can't even listen for her properly

if she had them tuesday/wednesday...wouldn't she come home by now?

mama kitties have been having kittens outdoors for thousands of years. They are tougher than we think.

I know you miss her. It might just be that she is still nursing so much that she doesn't want to leave them.

My beloved kitty was gone a whole week once, in the dead of winter. She slipped out one day when we let the dog into the yard to do her business. She came home 7 days later. I had spent six of those days crying my eyes out.

Get some rest and be gentle with yourself.

64. weird indeed, how far do cats roam?
our little side street is a dead end with a meadow...that runs between our neighborhood and an elementary school

there's a busier street that runs the length of the neighborhood, down to the boulevard/main drag through town

we are 7-8 blocks back from the main drag and there are commercial places all along it...

2 main places/shopping centers...one has a cleaners, deli, liquor store, car wash...pretty busy
the other has a pizza place, tanning salon, hair place, hot dog joint, organic meat market, and a bar...maybe less traffic

could she be that far away? do I need to go further afield with my flyers?

65. Possibly
Cats can roam pretty far, though I wouldn't expect a pregnant one to do that. What about that school? Are there dumpsters in the back? It's possible that the thing I was seeing was the school, and not a strip mall. I do know it wasn't a residence.

I would check out both shopping centers just to be safe -- can't imagine why they're showing me this if it's not so, but you know how cryptic guides can be sometimes. Could be someone from the organic meat market or the deli either one is giving her food - especially if she's a friendly cat.

71. FirstLight. I'm sorry I haven't answered until now.
Since I live in a rural part of California and have lost a couple of kitties who disappeared and I don't want to even think about what happened to them, but I have been following this thread and praying for your kitty's return along with her family. It's good that you are putting out flyers. Although we try to keep our pets close and indoors sometimes they just get out and there is nothing you can do about it. We found one of our kitties this way after three weeks and some kind people had been feeding him up until then. Also, in our community we have a website for lost and found pets. The Sheriff also has a website listing the pets they are holding in the Animal Control facility. Have you tried any of these outlets?

Maybe somebody brought her in, trying to be helpful.

Our cat got away one time and was missing for a few days before we put flyers up. I tucked them into the doorways of all the houses in our neighborhood. The next day, a college girl called me to tell me that she and her friends had adopted my cat, thinking he was a stray, lost in the cold (it wasn't even that cold out), but he didn't get along with their cat, so they took him to the animal shelter! Instead of just letting him go again, duh. My husband went right down there to get him, but couldn't find him. I could see him in a picture online, telling my husband this over the cell phone, when he finally found our cat hiding under a blanket in one of the cages.

Sending good vibes. Kitty, please come home!

79. Some suggestions
Edited on Tue Sep-08-09 01:58 AM by MagickMuffin
First off I did a dowsing ( I was a little hesitant doing one as I'm not sure how accurate it will be and don't want to get your hopes up, but I thought I would go ahead and give it a try ) and it indicated she was across the street in someone's garage and they don't know she is there. So, if you have a neighbor across the street perhaps you could ask them to check for you or check it out together.

She is hungry and has a litter of 3 little ones. You need to check it out first thing in the morning, ask your neighbor to open the garage as your babies are trapped inside. You could also consult your pendulum and see if you get the same results.

Another thing I came across is something from Craigslist. Which you should check out. Maybe even place an ad there as well.

http://www.missingpetpartnership.org/recovery-lostcat.php

this link is for a pet detective. She is expensive but you could check out her tips.

http://www.thesocialpet.com/

I hope this information was accurate and that your baby will be home this morning.

directly across is a gray house, empty & for sale...

caddy-corner on the left is a brown-shingled house with a tan garage door... dog lives there with some college kids. I think their garage is storage because they never open it...

I'll check both once the kids are on the school bus...

I started my period today, maybe that's a good omen that the goddes is with me on this!

I apologize that my skills didn't have a positive response. I'm new with this and have only asked questions pertaining to myself, and those results were not always accurate. However, I thought that was more to me wanting a certain outcome. Since trying to help you I would get a better result, but as I stated in my other post, I certainly didn't want to get your hopes up. I still feel as though they could have let you in their garage just long enough to call out to her. Who knows Muffin could have gotten in and they didn't even know it.

Edited on Sat Sep-12-09 05:17 AM by freeplessinseattle
with your son, maybe, to be another set of ears. She might not respond when other people are around, so if you are able to go onto the property alone without it being a big deal you'll have a better chance of locating her, if she is there. My family cat got locked in a neighbor's garage overnight when I was a child, they are tempting places for kitties! especially since it sounds like she used to live across the street?

Cats can survive for a surprisingly long time in tough situations, like that story the other day the poor kitty trapped under fire rubble for almost a month, and my friend's cat disappeared for 19 days last month.
