The Shadow Dance - what the 7th House tells us about our Shadow self
The Shadow Dance—
Understanding Repetitive
Patterns in Relationships

“The psychological rule says that when an inner situation is not made conscious, it happens outside as fate. That is to say, when the individual remains undivided and does not become conscious of his inner opposite, the world must perforce act out the conflict and be torn into opposing halves.”

— DR. CARL GUSTAV JUNG
(...)
A Life-long Process
No one does this overnight. Shadow work is a life-long retrieval process and it takes years of patient inner dialogue with oneself to understand and even admit to ourselves that Shadow work is even realistic and necessary. It’s not easy to do and takes time and energy. Not always, but most often it begins at midlife when we become determined to see the truth about ourselves after a series of painful relationships. As the Greeks inscribed at the temple of Delphi “Know thyself” and “Nothing in excess.” Two very wise statements.

It is impossible to truly learn about our whole Self and grow into more conscious human beings without this kind of internal self-honesty and as Robert Johnson says in the book Owning Your Own Shadow, it takes a great deal of courage.

Points in the chart such as the descendant and the IC also have a great deal to do with what falls into Shadow in the personality.
— Liz Greene, Ph.D.

1. I think if we don't own it
It will eat us for lunch. That has been my experience. I starting facing what I would call a shadow that I had repressed a number of years ago and it was very difficult for a while, still is sometimes, but I had to face it to keep advancing. I haven't done any official tests of anything but I had to face that I didn't believe religion like everyone around me did, I had suppressed it and told myself that someday I would have to make myself believe as they did and join a church but suddenly it just burst into my consciousness that their path wasn't mine. I can't begin to explain the anger, and people around me telling me I had to go with the accepted spiritual path, and knowing it wasn't mine, and knowing they meant well in what they were telling me. It almost ate me alive, the suppression for years trying to be what I thought of as "good". I just gooded myself out and had a rage inside that may never extinguish. The kicker on the spiritual shadow side was that so long as I didn't look at it, I couldn't progress very far in the sort of spiritual ventures that are right for me. I just simply stalled out about 10 years after entering somewhat of a spiritual path in my late 20s (still one that would be acceptable to mainstream religion), like a car out of gas. But my acceptable spiritual endeavors weren't enough, and what I was told I should do wasn't for me. It was a hard wall to hit, but necessary.

Now I have been addressing the fact that I could easily despise the right in the same way that they hate so many people, I could take on their hate and throw it right back at them, I am fully as capable of vile hatred as they, every bit of it, I see that capability; and it all stems from my propensity to fear them like they fear progress. Since I see it, and name it, it is easier to counteract than my spiritual shadow that I hid even from myself for so long. That's why I sometimes say "I'm not a good liberal" because being accepting of the right just isn't that easy for me. I am not a natural for loving my enemies. It takes work to not be as much of a raging heathen as they are. I fully intend to remain snarky about them though, LOL.

We all have that shadow side, it is also another reason I hesitate to fully embrace the idea of manifestation when it comes to the power of every single thought, what about the subconscious working of the shadow? Does that destroy our lives or the lives of others without us having a clue? Can we spare enough thinking power to address our shadow side or does the idea of manifestation make us suppress it further out of fear of it's power? I prefer to avoid as much fear as I can these days, I have enough that occurs naturally without dredging any up.

2. Well that's just the thing...
about manifestation. It's hard to accept that whatever is on the outside is a reflection of the inside. Sometimes it is impossible. I know some things about your spiritual path, and it doesn't allow us to blame it all on the other. If someone is getting under my skin, I can't get away with claiming I am so spiritually evolved that I just cannot tolerate the 'lower energies'. *snort* How evolved are we if we are still looking for something on the outside to make us okay on the inside? That's when I get busy in an attempt to figure out what is it about myself that is reacting to what is being presented by the 'other'. It's ME!

I started the shadow work in 2000, in mid life, as she writes. And it was also precipitated by giving up on "that" religion. It just wasn't working and by golly I had tried my best. The first eight years of dealing at that level were pretty horrific in a lot of ways. Of course I had some fun too because I released some boundaries I had been harboring. This past year has gotten better. I'm much less inclined to stomp around about THEM (whoever). My job has become to determine what my choices are in dealing with an unpleasant situation. Her website also helped me see this is a never ending proposition. It will continue the rest of my life. I don't have to get it perfect today.

IOW. We will manifest consciously or unconsciously, I think is the point. That gets my mind spinning too...

Did you look at her chart about what your Descending sign indicates? I had to giggle at some of mine. Yep. That's me alright. Gotta live with it. Most of my life I lived in fear of my own inadequacies (shadow). I'm not saying I roll out the red carpet for them now, but I do know they cannot be dodged.

3. I don't know if I'm reading my chart right.
It looks like I have Mars and Neptune. Is that correct?

She is using the Descendant. I don't have any planets in the 7th, so I didn't dig deep enough to find out if it applies to the planets which are actually there. Maybe so. But, yes that's Mars and Neptune.

So, with Taurus rising >

TAURUS RISING - SCORPIO/Pluto in the 7th - The DETECTIVE ...
