SC nominee John G. Roberts' natal chart?
recent newspaper bio gave his birthdate as Jan. 27, 1955...first aspect pattern that leaps out is a fixed sign T-Square involving Mercury in Aquarius, Saturn in Scorpio, and Pluto in Leo--a picture of rigid intellectual identification with the rich/powerful and corporate culture--not to mention anti-choice?

1. Tempering that T-square
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 06:46 PM by SimpleTrend
is a possible grand trine with Saturn, Jupiter&Uranus in Cancer, and Moon in Cancer (moon position is in question due to its travel in one day). Therefore, I'd like to see a birth time, and location if possible to make any sweeping generalizations regarding the Moon position.

In regards to the T-square, there's the natal Pluto/Mercury (deep, quick, and subtle communicative efforts) midpoint natal Saturn (possibly argumentative and/or under attack). Saturn in Scorpio may give a certain seriousness and also potential transformation, perhaps, yes, some concern with corporate affairs and the status quo. Mercury in Aquarius gives a quick while deep grasp of a situation, but also a certain objectivity and perhaps open-mindedness as well as intuitive 'higher mind' functions. Pluto in Leo does appear to give him a certain willingness to exercise power and rule by force (Supreme Court?), and there may be certain economic ideological leanings inherent in his makeup influenced by the age when he was young and affairs that occurred while his young mind was developing. There is also some inherent personality conflict herein, he perhaps feels a tendency to withdraw in at times, and at other times to communicate outward. There might be a seesaw psychological pattern where strong emotions can draw him from the inward toward the outward state, and he needs to be on his own personal guard against any future rulings he may make while his emotions are involved in an issue, for when/if he rules from emotion, the opposition will see this as rule by force, but once he's confirmed, the Supreme Court position gives him this power. This emotional seesaw is perhaps tempered in the T-square by Mercury in Aquarius, which in turn is also in trine aspect to Neptune in Libra (could be positive or negative) and Jupiter/Uranus conjunction in Cancer (mostly good).

One might also look to the Sun in Aquarius for certain tendencies such as a certain concern with humanitarian issues, as well a Sun sextile Mars in Aquarius aspect which confers leadership qualities, working with others and elements of justness and equanimity as well as doing things his own way. There's a possible downside of doing things too uniquely: he will answer to no one once confirmed.

Without a time and place one certainly cannot ascribe any house position interpretive to the T-square. A quick look for 0GMT and 0N0 0W0 reveals that there are variable ratios of squares to trines throughout the 24-hour possible time period.

I've also looked at this in comparison to the DU Activists Corps chart, in one main harmonic, and I'd like to meditate on the issue for a time. My first impression is that he's not necessarily the best pick for Democratic or Progressive causes, but I'm also wondering if he's not the worst, either. None of his major planets energize the Pluto/Saturn w/Jupiter bi-quintile & quintile axes in the DU Activists Corps chart, with the possible exception of Venus, which has a wide applying orb (by modern standards), and which may have a temperable rather than exacerbation effect on the DU Activist Corps dark side. But we don't know about his natal Moon placement!

I know it's not the 'political' polarization answer you may desire, but I'm just trying to be objective, and it's what I see right now in the chart. I cannot see from the chart what he thinks about pro-choice.

For me, studying a chart is an in depth and slow process, and I've already spent too much time on this today, and only just barely scratched some of the surface.

Edited to add: Perhaps some other astrologers here will chime in with their views.

4. Oops, correction,
should have waited a day before posting and proofread.

Below strikeout means delete, quotes means word(s) added:

One might also look to the Sun in Aquarius for certain tendencies such as a certain concern with humanitarian issues, as well a Sun sextile Mars in Aquarius"Aries" aspect which confers leadership qualities, working with "inspiring" others and "with" elements of justness and equanimity as well as doing things his own way "with independence and authority." There's a possible downside of doing things too uniquely: h "H"e will answer to no one once confirmed.

9. thanks for saying this:
"I know it's not the 'political' polarization answer you may desire, but I'm just trying to be objective,"

i think sometimes the aspects we'd interpret more kindly (read: psychologically) in our own charts we interpret as portends of doom in our political opponents.

2. He is a pretty sure winner
I think it is pretty clear he will be confirmed. Except for a few rough days before September 9, he will sail through and be confirmed and sworn in by later in September. He has really outstanding planetary configurations that suggest he is clearly the winner.

Progressed Uranus conjunct Jupiter;
progressed Moon opposite Jupiter/progressed Uranus;
transiting Jupiter square Jupiter;
transiting Mars station sextile Jupiter;
transiting Pluto quincunx Jupiter.

Jupiter is the planet of success and expansion.

So we have three transiting planets - Mars, Jupiter, and Pluto - aspecting his Jupiter. And two progressed planets - Moon and Uranus - also aspecting his Jupiter. All of this comes together in the second half of September and the beginning of October. I don't see how he can lose.

3. Thanks Nancy,
I've got to look at this type of analysis more closely. I really haven't used progressions of any kind very much.

5. Once he's confirmed how will he do?
Edited on Sun Jul-24-05 01:13 PM by davsand
Will he be an independent spirit or is he the uber-conservative rat-bastard a lot of people think he is?

Frankly, the silence from the conservatives scares hell outta me. I'm afraid this clown is gonna make Ashkkkroft look like a liberal saint.

6. I was looking at Robert's chart a little more,
and found this transcript that I've excerpted:
Judge Roberts was born in Buffalo and grew up in Indiana.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/19/politics/politicsspecial1/19TEXT-SCOTUS.html

There are a number of Buffalos in the U.S., so I'm not certain it helps with geographic local much, but it does narrow the possibilities some, perhaps his birthplace is Buffalo, Indiana. I also note the date of the NY Times transcript is July 19, 2005, not the 20th or 21st when much of the media picked up the story and ran with it. I'm not sure where Bush was when he made this speech or what time of day it was when he spoke those words.

Anyway, upon further reflection in comparing his natal chart against the DU Activist Corps chart, there are a couple of troubling things that I missed earlier. One is that Roberts natal Jupiter/Uranus conjunction is applying toward the DU Activist Corps natal Saturn, which is one of the points of the bi/quintile points of the larger pentagonal pattern that I believe represents the DU Activists' darker side. I've made my beliefs about this particular Pluto/Saturn axis of the Activist Corps known in the thread started by icymist.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=245&topic_id=9189&mesg_id=9189
I would prefer to see Robert's Jupiter/Uranus conjunction to be on the other side of the DU Activists' Saturn. Interpreting this might indicate vacillating emotions (anger, euphoria) and tensions that could have a constricting or difficult effect with respect toward DU Activists goals, perhaps a sudden change of some kind.

Another thing that I notice in the comparison of the two charts is that Robert's natal Venus is applying to the DUActivists' natal Pluto by a few degrees. Once again what bothers me about this is how Roberts symbolic representations of Love and Beauty (Venus) have a synergetic effect with DUActivists' dark-side mass power (Pluto).

The above two paragraphs also means when looking at a 5th harmonic comparison of the two charts, Robert's natal Venus and Uranus act together on the same harmonic wave, because both of them are applying on occupied points in the 1st harmonic where a larger orb should likely be used, rather than vacant points of the sub-harmonic where an orb should be decreased by the harmonic number. He might have a peculiar interest (Uranus) in gay marriage (Venus) or even civil unions.

Another way of analyzing Robert's chart would be against the moment of Bush's nomination announcement, this would be more representative of the administrations true intent for him rather than how Roberts affects DU Activists. Anyone know precisely where Bush was when he made public his announcement and what exact time that was?

8. Buffalo, NY birthplace
Roberts was born in Buffalo, NY. His father worked for Bethlehem Steel there and the family was relocated to a Bethlehem plant in Indiana when Roberts was a kid.

7. What about Roberts' Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Cancer?
Isn't that supposed to make one more liberal? I have the same conjunction, as I was born nearly two months later, and I've had astrologers tell me that Jupiter-Uranus trine Saturn in Scorpio is one reason I'm a diehard liberal (My J-U's in the 10th; dunno what house Roberts' is in.)
