The energy of a name
My cousin is expecting her second child at the end of March and asked me to look into the energy of a particular name. What do you guys know about that? Can you maybe point me in the right direction? Or if I give you the first and middle name, you can give me your intuitive sense?

Thoughts?

1. There are some
freebie sites on the web that can you the numerological derivation of names - that's one start.

My own opinion is that there is a definite energy to names. Has your cousin felt into the child's energy, felt what might be appropriate?

2. I'll google some sites and see what comes up ...
... I have a numerology program but that only works with a birthdate and not really one in the future, alas. :) We know it's a boy and the pregnancy has been different from her first one so she was just wondering.

6. you can do the numerological calculation on the name yourself.
Edited on Fri Jan-08-10 12:27 AM by sojourner
do it first, middle and last name - each separate to begin with.

here's the basic chart:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
a b c d e f g h i
j k l m n o p q r
s t u v w x y z

use "katie"
k = 2 (or 11), t = 2 (or 20) -- add the consonants to get a total of 4.

now do it for the vowels.
a = 1, i = 3, e = 5 --- add and get a total of 9.

do this for the whole name. first name is pretty important as it is "who" you are. but the whole name is significant and calculation should include totality. it's the consonants vs the vowels that have special significance (I've forgotten how exactly so recommend more research)

add the values across --- now add 9 and 4 and you get 13. 1 + 3 = 4. look up the energy of the number 4. (has to do with work)
also check the values of 9 (humanitarian concerns) and 4 (again work).

I would definitely add this to my analysis. good info on numerology available at 123numerology.com (or used to be).

Several Native Cultures believed that a child would whisper their name to their mum shortly after birth. Native American's were notorious for naming their babies after the first thing they saw after giving birth. The baby spirits probably hoped it would be a playful wolf, or a flowering lily, or a lovely sunrise, or a shooting star, instead of a growling bear, or a pooping boar, or a leaping lemming, or a weeping willow, or a floundering jellyfish.

:silly:

But more seriously, my son told me his name during my fifth month of pregnancy.

I used to sing it to him for the duration of his gestation, but I didn't tell anyone about it. I wanted to wait until I saw the whites of his eyes and I did.

It's a ridiculous mish mash of Anglican, Euro, and Eastern Euro cultures. Whenever anyone asks me on the phone, "How do you spell it . . .?" I say, "With great difficulty." I say stuff like ""N as in nomenclature. . . "P" as in pomegranate". . . "C" as in consciousness". . ."and NO, I was never in the military." :)

I remember once hearing that one of the more empowering affirmations one can say is to repeat their complete birth name whenever one feels the need for reinforcement of their essence and to derive their strength from self when it's lacking in their environmental interactions.

Of course naming is a process like so many things are. There are so often a plethora of complications. Many choose to change their names, or adopt nom de plumes or screen names later in life to integrate other energies, or transcend their familial circumstances, or a holy host of other reasons.

One of the most intuitive and creative friends I have, just had her very first child last spring. She was deeply compelled to give him a lovely though obscure Celtic first name. The father insisted on a far more bland and common name. He's not terribly attentive in his son's life at this point (wicked understatement.) I may encourage her to suggest to her son to adopt his middle and far more magical middle name which she heard over time. Must tread softly now though.

Felt entirely mixed when I got around to doing my kid's numerology before he was born and I surprisingly saw that he was not lacking in any numbers. Missing numbers in numerology are sometimes viewed as "karmic" numbers. Yet what pray tell in a chart, be it astrological or numerological, isn't karmic if one is going to take on that perspective. . .? The amazing person from whom I learned numerology after he did copious research, described missing numbers in a birth name (paraphrasing) as being representative of the energy that one is really great at accessing and inspiring in others, but which one not so great at grounding for themselves. I can relate to that entirely in terms of my missing numbers and experiences. Ahhh. . .one of them is my life path. Oooops.

Had read a statement from another numerologist who worked long and hard at finding a name for his child that was not lacking any numbers. The kid was born severely autistic but in his dad's statement, he couldn't have reinforced any more emphatically, how much joy that kid inspired in everyone with whom he interacted.
So go figure.

Maybe that's the point. We can't manipulate our kids. We can only listen to them. They may just be smarter than we.

They'd better be, given all we are bequeathing them.

Another friend who is an Astrologer knew she had to have a C-Section. So she tried to manipulate his chart to be the "best" possible in the window she was afforded. Then a hurricane approached so the hospital insisted that all "routine" surgeries be performed on the day before the storm struck. So the kid ended up with the Moon conjunct Saturn squared her Saturn. Yikes. Great kid, though it's at times, a tough dynamic for both of them.

My son was born at home and right after birth, I knew shortly after doing so that he had an overload of a certain number which was also his life path. I had a moment of doubt, and thought, "well maybe I can't name him that." Yet with his Mars conjunct Jupiter and Venus in fire, I didn't feel as though I could ever thwart his will even if it be at the time, fetal. He didn't get a birth certificate until after he was 2 years old for several unbelievably dumb reasons. He's as much of a procrastinator as his mum. LOL

By the time he did, he had been nick named by his paternal grandmother in his second day of life with a shortened version of his birth name. That was one of the better things she ever did as it totally suits him.

He's on a first named basis with the world.

Also, his father insisted that he and our son should share the same surname which his very ancestry and pateral grandmother strongly belied. So a highly prized and well payed for and semi earned (for cultural reasons) prefix got completely ixneyed.

Bango, wango, he sorta acquired a missing life path number in one full swoop, though it may over time, turn out to have been, only temporary.

Thankfully, I could step back and realize that this relatively short termed alteration of what he had whispered to me as a still spirit, would ultimately protect him from an ever deteriorating situation between his parents. He can switch it back if he ever cares to do so at some point.

Besides he got his passport before he got his birth certificate so that was the first documentation of his birth so I did in fact follow his gestational instructions as best I could. I can be stealful in that way, when it comes to my kid.

Pssssssssssst. . . there's no such thing as a perfect name, or chart, situation, job, living situation, relationship, or marriage.

If you're looking for one, you've simply come to the wrong planet.

Sometimes, we just have to wing it, trust, and go with the flow.

Hope that your cousin will chill and trust that the child's name will come to her even if she needs to wait to see the whites of their eyes, and that she has an extraordinarily delightful baby and an really easy birth.

best

4. Well, in my culture the name of a child is already
there. Naming has everything to do with the circumstances in the lives of the parents during the pregnancy, how a child comes into the world or what you want for that child in this life based on what he/she is born into. So by knowing someone's name, you can tell whether that person is a twin, born after twin siblings, born on the way to the hospital (that's my name), was saved from certain death, born after the recent death of a grandparent, et cetera, or just names for continued joy and bounty if nothing was really going on but good times.

My nephew's name translates to He that Helps Me Build My House. This name immediately says that there are many females in the family who will eventually surrender their surnames for their children's sake. And in giving the name, the hope is that the paternal/male line will continue through him, since my brother is our only male sibling. Brother's name means Stay and Enjoy life, since my mother had 3 other sons who passed away in infancy before him. Everyone believes the energy of that name helped him to survive.

The names - and we tend end up with a lot of them  - are given by grandparents' consensus because they know better the progression of circumstances within the family.

Also, I think if your cousin is sensing a particular name then she should go with it but check the meaning and for spelling. I remember as a kid hearing that singer Dionne Warwick went to a psychic before she became famous, because she was getting nowhere. The psychic told her that the energy of her name was not open enough but adding an E to it would do the trick.

8. Here's an article I found...
http://www.babynamesgarden.com/nameasdestiny.aspx

It may give you some references or other terms to take & google...

I am interested in looking up MY name now! Funny, there's a new app on Facebook that grades your parents on "originality" in naming you...My name was he #2 girls name for the year I was born...FAIL mom & dad!!
Course there is a funny story for that too.... my folks had a boys name picked out months in advance and only thought about a girl's name as a back up on the way to the hospital. My middle name 'michelle' was because that was the Beatles song on the radio as they went to deliver me! sheesh! talk about UN prepared!

10. I think the energy comes with the child, not the name
We had two names picked out for my son before he was born. I just felt like I had to see him before I could decide. And when he was born, there was absolutely no question which name he should have. It was very clear, just from his being there.

All 10 pounds 5 ounces of him. The wimpy name had to go. So then the obstetrician asks us what we're going to call him, and we tell him "Keith" and he makes a face and says "What kind of name is that for a boy?"

The obstetrician's name was Curtis. Curtis? Come on. I mean, really.

:wtf:

12. Couple of things I'm picking up that I wanted to mention,
in case it helps with the naming process somehow: I get the sense of a very high energy child. Lots of dynamic red energy, more likely to be born on the Aries side of March than the Pisces one. I also feel there is the possibility that the baby is an old soul who has been out of incarnation for a while, and is coming back this time for a special task or purpose (and yes, I know all babies are special, but I think this one has an unusual life path).

So, uh, high energy names?

13. Interesting ...
... since baby was completely unplanned and she had difficulty getting pregnant the first time - I'm inclined to agree with you re: the special task or purpose. They are considering Peter but I dunno. That feels sorta laid back to me. :-) First son's name is Luke and that fits him to a T.

Thanks for your comments, BlueIris!

14. Oh, my gosh!
I was (seriously) going to suggest the name Peter, as it was the very first name that popped into my head after I read the OP. I didn't, because, well, I thought actual name suggestions would be rude, but that was the name I got, right off the bat.

Peter is a great name, totally classic. Also, the name starts with a 'P,' which is connected (in my experiences with name energy) with power. Appropriate for an Aries type.

15. WOW ...
... how funny is that?? I sent that info along to her - might give her some validation on it from an intuitive standpoint.

Funny aside note: When she told me she was pregnant, I just KNEW it was a girl. Knew it in my bones. She's also a big Twilight fan so I decided (for her) that the baby would be named Bella. We were both heartbroken when it was shown to be a boy and I joked that I was gonna call him Bella regardless and that yes, I'd pay for his therapy bills later in his life. hehe Her husband even said she could name him Edward if she desperately wanted to but that's not as fun as Bella. (He's a good husband.)

Anyway, thanks BI for the hit and thanks everyone else for the cool information. I love learning new things and there's such a wealth of info here as well as unique perspectives. You guys are great!
