I think I saw something in the sky last night.
Edited on Tue Jan-19-10 01:34 PM by Cleita
We were without electricity yesterday for about eleven hours because of the rainstorms. I was sitting in the dark with a couple of candles looking out the window of my living room into the night. The sky was inky black because of the cloud cover and because of the lights blackout. Then I saw a bright light appear in the sky which seemed to suddenly explode and disappear. There was no sound. When I was able to get on line this morning to find out if there were any reports of an airplane or something exploding I ran across this UFO report in a message board in a city fifteen miles from where I live.

UFO Hvovers over Santa Maria Slow So to No. 8:15PM 1-13-2010
Did anyone else on the central coast of CA see the LARGE slow moving object hover over the Santa Maria area about 8:15PM 1-13-2010? It was NOT the US Aurora Project. Hovered with no sound. To ensure you saw what I did am leaving the shape and size out. If you reply with similar description then will respond to them. WE are being watched! People look up and take notice of your surroundings. For MONTHS have you noticed the ill-regular clear shies above the central coast? What about the heavy orange to purple sunrises or sunsets? Created by a break down or hole in the earths electromagnetic layer just discovered by scientists? In perfect clear sky notice the small bury roundish cloud formations sometimes with a short brighter snake like cloud used to hide hovering crafts. DONT BELIEVE?? Start looking up people! Watch the night skies on a clear night. This is not the first sighting in California. Over 100 since 1-1-2010

Could I have seen a UFO? I can't find anything in the local news to explain what I saw. We are close to Vandenburg AFB, however, most of the hardware they send up is usually towards the west over the ocean. This was to the east. Any ideas of what I might have seen?

1. It sure sounds like it, Cleita. The silent "explosion"
is the key for me...lights can sometimes be explained, but I can't think of any "normal" thing that would behave the way you described. Then again, lights in clouds can look strange because the light gets diffused and bent in different ways. Still, the one big explosion then it's gone...seems very different from anything I've ever seen. And it sounds like you weren't the only one to see something!

Have you ever seen a UFO before? I haven't seen anything definitive and I've always hoped I would.
:hi:

2. I've seen things I couldn't identify right away, but nothing like this.

Also, in addition, it didn't light up the clouds like lights would. It was very strange.

4. Me too, GTRO. I look at the stars/moon almost every night
just hoping to see something rare and wonderful.

5. I got some infrared night vision binoculars for Christmas.
So I can go outside and see critters and trespassing rednecks.

I also figure I might see a UFO. That would be very exciting!

6. There are such things?
Wow! I need some. I have the worst time chasing my black kitty Benny after it gets dark trying to make him come in. If I could see him in the dark it would be great. Just an aside. He was sitting in the window when the event happened. He actually had blended into the night and I forget he was there until he jumped off the ledge because the light explosion startled him.

7. It wasn't any kind of "black box" project out of Vandenburg?
Then again, someone or something keeping *tabs* on the local AFB/rocket repository? ;-)

8. It could be something out of Vandenburg, but it's not the usual

stuff they shoot into the sky. I'm used to what their rockets look like when they light up the sky.

On edit: There is a lot of stuff they don't admit to when you call up and ask them if a sky event is because of them so we really don't know.
