Interesting defense of Cartesian objectification/reductionism in GD,
...occasioned by some remarks (misrepresented in the OP) by Prince Charlie:

You'll recognize many of DU's stalwart defenders of the dominant paradigm, in the discussion thread....

1. Easier to call someone woo woo than looking within.
Always the same old group saying the same things that reinforces the dominant paradigm, that btw is crumbling more each day. Not surprising.at.all.

2. No, not surprising, including the "charges" of "woo woo-ism"
But kind of sad, the closed-mindedness of it all...

3. It's sad really that some posters completely miss
Charles' point.
Thanks for the link.

4. I see nothing wrong in what Charles said
He "gets it"--we have to start thinking of the earth and everything on it as part of a whole (us included) instead of treating the planet like an "it", to be used up and thrown out. What's so "woo woo" about that? (Methinks the people who like to label something "woo" fall all over each other to plant that label on something before they even think about it, just in a competition to be "first"...) Funny that this ridiculed item sits cheek-by-jowl with all the threads about how we have to save the earth from ourselves and more disasters like the oil spill. :banghead:

5. Exactly, MorningGlow -- quite a disconnect, isn't there!?

"We're killing the planet!"

"Talking about the planet in anything other than the agreed-upon hierarchal language is... woo-woo!... but, we're killing the planet!"

etc...

sigh....

6. There are so many more questions than pure science will be able to answer
I want science to continue forward; to help us understand our universe. At the same time, I have a brain and senses that give me information on how to navigate this universe. That is my personal experience.

I wish all well on their journey of exploration. I also wish that those who have a different experience would let it be. Their experience is part of MY experience and my experience is part of their experience whether they like it or not.

And it is almost always just the same FEW who gang up and call names and say ugly things.

I wonder if any of those who spit on us have heard of quantum entanglement? This is very cool. Einstein's idea of spooky action at a distance has been around for a long time. Did I mention that Einstein is one of my heroes and one of about five people from the whole of history, I'd like to meet.
