Sun is Cancer, 4° 46'
Moon is Capricorn, 4° 46'
There were four lunar eclipses in 2009. In 2010, there are two lunar eclipses and, believe it or not, this is the first lunar eclipse of the year! Here are the facts. The eclipse is a partial eclipse meaning that it will not turn the bright coppery color noted with the total eclipse. If we pay attention over the two hour period starting at least an hour before the peak to an hour past, we are likely to see some changing of the color, however, the moon never totally "vanishes from view." The eclipse will be visible from all of Central USA and regions in that time zone as well as all regions west of that time zone and into eastern Asia. The peak eclipse time is 11:39 am. GMT. For Pacific Daylight saving Time, the eclipse will peak at 4:39 am. (PDT). To find the peak eclipse time for your time zone, check the lunar eclipse page at our calendar site, moontracks.com This partial lunar eclipse belongs to the Lunar Saros Series 120 that originated from the North Lunar Node in the 12th family on October 16, 1000. **A map for this eclipse has been included at the bottom of this page.
The nice feature about a lunar eclipse is that it is visible from any location that it is dark and cloudless giving many individuals the chance to experience the event. No safety goggles are necessary to view a lunar eclipse. On the other hand, the solar eclipse in two weeks will be very difficult to watch due to the path over the southern Pacific Ocean and, as always, the solar eclipse will require special protective eye wear.
During the lunar eclipse, the Moon will be Out of Bounds (OOB), which can add to the feelings of gloom as we deal with all the other difficult aspects of the lunar eclipse chart. Any traumatic events that occur on or near this Full Moon are likely to cause us to feel extremely vulnerable as the OOB effects will be affecting us. Mercury will also be OOB, interfering with our logic. The Sun will still be at the high declination (the Solstice after-effects) which also leaves us feeling a little unsure of what to do.
The Sun in Cancer tends to give us a craving for emotional calm. Although we may go through some extreme mood swings during this lunar eclipse, we really just want the comforts of family and home to help us feel safe. There are some control issues that we should deal with. There is the illusion of control that so many of us think we have and there is the feeling of control that many of us never quite achieve. For some of us, we may even have trouble taking command of our emotions. When we add in the multitude of squares and oppositions in this chart, we are likely to come face to face with a variety of control issues within our lives. The Sun is conjunct with Mercury. The Out of Bounds influence of Mercury in this conjunction is that we may not even be aware of our problematic logic process. We certainly could feel as though we are making sound decisions, but the outcomes of our choices are likely to leave us feeling unsettled. The opposition of the Sun and Mercury (OOB) to the Moon (OOB) and Pluto retrograde conjunction in Capricorn is likely to exacerbate our issues involving control and vulnerability.
