On August 24,
the new Virgo Sun is opposite or across the zodiac from the Pisces Moon and we have what is known as the Harvest Moon, Corn Moon or Barley Moon. In American Indian folklore this full moon marked the right time to start the harvest and farmers could work late into the night by the light of this Moon which rises early and is very bright.

3. I'm under the impression that the
Harvest Moon is close to the autumnal equinox, which means this year's Harvest Moon will be in September. It can actually occur in October, depending on just when the full moon occurs.

I also understand that it's called the Harvest Moon because farm workers wound up working all night long, under the bright full moon, to harvest the crops.

The Harvest Moon is the full moon that occurs closest to the fall equinox in the Northern Hemisphere.

So what's with my previous post? What's it mean? Darned if I know! Should say, 'we WILL have. . .,' eh? Or not!

5. I think that the moon rises just as the sun is setting
and so it makes for seamless light, which is what creates the Harvest Moon. I also think there are a couple of them because of the timing of the moon rise.

6. The full moon always rises exactly as the sun
sets. And it rises about an hour or so later (the exact amount of time varies)each night. So if you pay attention to the moon at sunset, you can quickly estimate how near you are to the full moon.

My understanding of the term Harvest Moon came about because workers stayed in the field sometimes all night long to complete the harvest during the full moon when the crops were ready to harvest. We have romanticized the Harvest Moon, but for farm workers a century or more back, it meant a twenty-four hour shift or physical labor.
