Freaky deaky dream--who's up for an interpretationpalooza?

Allll rightie ASAHers, have at it! Once again I'm baring my psyche in all its weirdness, so enjoy! (And exhale with relief that you're not me!) :crazy:

The other night I dreamt that I was addicted to sneaking into other people's houses. I didn't do anything IN the houses, didn't steal anything. It wasn't breaking and entering exactly. I just...snuck in. For the sake of sneaking in.

What I'd do is drive to a suburban neighborhood, usually a modern housing tract, and look for a house that was unlocked and usually showed it from the street (like an open front door with a screen door). If the door was unlocked, I'd go in, maybe wander around for a few minutes, then leave. Oh--and I had a small dog with me that rode on a skateboard that I dragged around somehow. No, I have no idea why.

I remember three instances of sneaking in, all in the same housing tract. First I chose a house that was being remodeled. I wandered into the back yard and saw pallets loaded with bricks and stuff, lots of sheets of drywall, 2 x 4s, etc. I planned on walking into the open back door, but the workmen asked me what I was doing there (out of concern for my safety in a work zone), so I made an excuse and left. The second house had an open front door. I snuck into the foyer, but a woman was home. She heard the screen door open and close and came down the stairs in her housecoat. I stammered something about being in the wrong house and took off. I was worried that she was going to call the police, but I couldn't resist trying another house, even though it was close to the other two, and the owners could compare notes. In this third house I actually went down a short hall and peeked in a first-floor bedroom and bathroom. There was someone home there as well, but I don't think they saw me. Still, I ran out when I heard them.

WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT?! If it was symbolic, then I don't know what it stands for. If I was joyriding in another person's life, I certainly didn't like it. What I remember most strongly was how I could feel the visceral thrill of it in the dream, and how I was actually incapable of NOT doing it, even though I was afraid I was going to get caught. I didn't WANT to do it, but I couldn't stop. It really was like an addiction. In fact, the feeling was so strong that even after I woke up I was terrified that one of the homeowners was going to report me to the police. It took a few seconds for me to realize it was just a dream.

Goggie was right cute, too--sort of Scottie-ish. Different for me, as we only have cats.

The urge to go into houses that weren't mine was SO strong. I don't have an addictive chemistry so I don't know for sure, but that overwhelming feeling to do something you know isn't good for you must be what an addiction feels like.

Are you thinking of changing your identity? I'm not talking about joining the Witness Protection Program. I mean changing how you view yourself. Like instead of being the obedient daughter that you feel bound to do, you want to be more of a femme fatale. Understand my drift?

I think that is what is going on because you are looking at other houses. I think houses often reflect yourself.
Possible?

As many ASAHers have heard (ad nauseum), I'm in a state of flux, trying to get up the gumption to change my lifestyle. The fact that right now I'm in a lull and nothing much is happening on that front probably makes me more inclined to express it in my dreams...? :shrug:

This is what I'm feeling:

House represents yourself.

Skateboard represents freedom, fun.

Dog represents unconditional love.

You wish to visit different aspects of yourself, even ones you've been told are wrong to visit, even ones you believe are dangerous to visit, because it will be liberating to you to do so. And you bring with you a spirit of fun and an unconditional love for whatever you find.

I will be waiting to see what MG says.

And to add: it's not only liberating, it's a craving. This is something that MG very much supports, for herself and for others.

I also think that what MG found at each house/self is significant. One house under construction/remodeling. Another, she sees the bathroom and bedroom - both intimate places. The other, the resident is in a housecoat - meaning to me comfortable, at ease in her space and her door is open, but the screen door closed. At every one, MG wants to go in but is blocked.

Nice dream, MG. Especially the overwhelming feeling of wanting to explore these aspects of self.

One I hadn't thought of before--with each house I visited, I went in a little more, first into a yard, then into foyer, then down a hall and into a couple of rooms. I got more daring each time, I think. Hmm---!

but didn't think of the symbols of the skateboard and the dog--that's great, K!

I am indeed peeking into different aspects of myself and different lifestyles altogether (nothing drastic--not investigating a sex change or anything) so that makes sense. Thanks! :hug:

Other people's houses are either how you project yourself to be to another person ...
OR....
Others houses reflect how you may want to be percieved

sneaking in to the rooms/houses is like you taking sneak peeks of your own psyche!

I found it funny the dog was pulled around by you...here, the skateboarders have their dog pull THEM :rofl:

but the thought that came to mind was like a bumper sticker I saw once: Dog is my Co-pilot

since your have such a sense of humor i am thinking that your spirit does too! and really, god/dess is Always our co-pilot ;)

You were out of body and just doing some exploring. OBEs often turn into dreams, and you can't always tell that it still isn't one. We also go out of body unconsciously. This could have been the same thing :)

I have also gone into other people's home while out of body, though it was only one and I wasn't worried about being seen. I was simply looking around while out, and happy I had gone so far that time ;)

The feeling of obsession (to go into the houses) was so foreign to me, yet so powerful, I have been wondering if it really was mine or someone else's. Still ruminating...

That was one of the things that turned me on when I was doing real estate! Many homes for sale where the folks worked had "lock boxes" that conatined keys for us to let ourselves in. I just LOVED looking at the inside of other peoples houses, to see how they lived,not to get a cheap thrill out of not getting caught! I was "impressed with the number of houses in your dream...3....sounds like you were being goldiocks for a brief time??? Have you ever considered going into the RE field? I LOVE it better than any other job I've had in my life. I could utilize my expertise in staging and interior design as well as being my own boss. No time clock, and NO LIMITATIONS. Free to make as little or as much money as you decided to! It's one of those professions that is always hiring, tho' the values rise and fall, the need is still there! If I can ever drive a reliable car again, and I get some relief for my back pain, I would consider going back to it at least part time!

Comes from buying three houses/selling two in less than 10 years, I think. We were put through the wringer and experienced a LOT of crappy agents, not to mention crappy houses and crappy situations. Even went through two small-claims cases at the same time, with two buyers who broke their purchase contracts! (We won one, split the other.) After the tussles in court, I swore I was going to become a "real estate advocate"--offering my services (for a small fee) to help guide people through the treacherous waters of buying and/or selling houses. Because gods know there are too many lousy agents and lawyers out there who don't stand up for their clients!

Anyway, you have given me food for thought! Who knows--maybe I will...? :)

The dog on a skateboard is metaphor for childhood or child-likeness or youth.

You're literally shopping for an adulthood. Whether you're in one now or not, I think, is irrelevant. The suburban houses are probably just a stereotyped adult normalcy. You're going from one to the next trying to decide what kind of adult you'll be or what kind of adult you should be.

Construction House - An adulthood in a state of change.

Woman at home - I don't know...a two-mom family?

Third House - Not enough there to make a guess.

"Shopping for an adulthood"--ain't that the truth! :eyes: Yeah, that's me--44 and trying to figure out if "this is all there is". I do feel like I should be doing more, BE-ing more. I feel like I'm in limbo (and have been for almost two years now, so I'm getting itchy).

Also interesting that you pegged a two-mom family; my mother is getting older, and I can easily see a time when she'll be living with me. I often wonder what that's going to be like, because while she's my best friend, we bicker like old ladies when we're forced to make accommodations for each other's lifestyles.

to the VIctorian House I lived in 'till age 11. The owners were most gracious, were renovating and let me in to do a photo essay.
So I can compare childhood photos, with the new look! Cool...........

I dreamed the other night I was "studying UTE's (?) They were laid out in tidy rows ( like the doc file on appleworks if you are familiar,) & rather tedious! Health & Science studies..............? any interpretations?
