2. Right on schedule!!
I so pity the poor souls who THINK they know everything, and there is nothing left to learn! The smaller the mind...the larger the explosion thereof!! lol!!

4. Read through that thread you attached, and
it's the same ones who attack everyone at it again. What is up with these people? If they don't believe, fine, and it's fine for them to say it, but these people get condescending and down right mean. I just don't get it. You expect this kind of nastiness from freepers, but it certainly isn't called for on DU.

Wonder what they're going to say when all the things they condemn others for believing prove to be true?

5. I have realized that one of the major differences between...
most of the people who are interested in things in this forum and most skeptics is that a skeptic's way of approaching the world seems to be "I won't believe it until you prove it to me", and our way of approaching the world is to basically believe that something is possible until proven untrue or if it just feels wrong to us.

I think that one of the major misunderstandings that skeptics have in reference to individual members of this group is that many of them think that we all believe the same things. Actually, many of us are just open to the possibility of some of these things. I personally know very little.

I personally am open to the possibility that what is discussed in the article is true. My guess is that it's true, but I'm not personally invested in its outcome. If it turns out to not be true, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. My ego's not involved; it's just interesting to consider the possibility that this happened and continues to happen.

:)

6. That explains my participation very well.
I am open to the possibilities of the things discussed here. I don't always know what is true. I do know there is more than one path to the truth. Isn't being open to possibility just another way of saying one has faith?

9. Yep!
Good job enunciating this for us.

And, in this case, I do believe the story. I don't know what is going on, but something is.

Once someone asked an interesting question--suppose only one percent of people had dreams at night, and the rest of us didn't. Now, suppose that one percent tried to explain to the rest of us what was happening to them when they slept. What would the skeptics say? What would we say? If a large number of people, who have no financial or other motive, bear witness to an event or a set of events, and they are otherwise sane, I tend to believe them. There may be some alternate explanation, but I don't feel that large numbers of ex military people would lie about their experiences-- one or two, maybe.

But, I'm not invested in it either.

10. hmm, true, the skeptics do seem to hold that attitude
I've had a look at the skeptics' forum a couple of times and noticed that they also devote quite a bit of energy to mocking "the woo-woos" as if we were some opposing camp that must be attacked regularly. :D hee hee

Seems we rarely even bring up the "opposing camp" here.

11. Yeah, I tried really hard not to be insulting in any way in my post.
I decided quite a while back not to be insulted by anything that they say about us. It just doesn't matter to me what anybody else thinks of us in this group.

:hi:

13. Great explanation
That's a really good way of explaining them (and us). I feel just as you do, open to possibilities. There has to be some fear involved to get nasty because someone is more open about something. Disagreement, debate - sure; but there has to be fear for it to get UGLY like it gets on DU sometimes.
