So, last Saturday I went to a Come As You Were Halloween Party/Ice Cream Social & Raffle {LONG}
I had a really great time. I went as a Fairy. I had planned on making my own wings but time got away from me so I bought a pair and jazzed them up MagickMuffin style. My make up was rather like I always wear it with the exception of adding eyeshadow to the temples using a stencil design. It looked really awesome.

I made a batch of homemade ice cream the first batch this year, as my freezer isn't working and can't afford to fix it so I haven't been able to make any this year :( However, I was really excited about getting the opportunity to make some for my Mystic friends and their friends. But it started out as the ice cream from Hell :scared: I usually make French Vanilla which means I use a custard recipe. Everything was perfect until I started adding it to the canister. Then whoosh, splat, the canister *tumped over and more than half spilled out all over the counter, and floor. "OH NO, OH NO!" Hubby came running to witness the disaster. I managed to save what was left and had to make a decision whether to add more milk or fix another smaller batch of custard. I opted for the custard. Wasn't certain how it would turn out. After cleaning up the mess I made the custard and added it to the canister. Hubby put the motor on and started adding the ice to the bucket. I took over that task and away it went after adding the ice and rock salt. I filled the canister to full and it was oozing out the top, but I didn't mind, I always fill it fuller than suggested. Finally the motor stopped. However, one last problem reared it ugly head. My motor has to be placed in the bucket a certain way, it even has the directions printed on it, but hubby put it in the wrong way. Yup, it didn't want to come out, he had to really work to get it out of the bucket, which I'm glad he was able to without destroying the bucket which is made of wood. Now came the time to judge whether or not it would be worthy of taking to the party. Yea, Yippeee, it tasted Wonderful and delicious. I even made hot fudge sauce to go on top. YUM!

Now it was time to figure out what exactly I was going to wear as the basis of my costume. I had some leggings that has a lacy shirt attached to it that I've had for a very long time. Perfect or so I thought. I haven't worn it in a very long time. So, I try it on and whamo the elastic is worn out. Now what! I knew I had a corset like device that perhaps might hold everything together. What do ya know the perfect solution. I worn a black shirt, so I was all decked out in black. Even my fairy wings are black with blue spots and silver glitter. I added a big gigantic blue rhinestone antique pin to the wings where they meet in the middle, and I used a long reddish scarf of flow down the back. It looked fabulous.

I got ready to leave. I was 30 minutes late, but it wasn't that big of a deal. Everyone loved my costume, as well as the ice cream and fudge sauce.

There were pirates (male & female), neanderthals (male & female), a wizard, a gypsy, a jailbird, a jazz musician, a pothead (guy who cut a hole in a plastic cauldron and wore it on his head), an Egyptian Priestess, an injured man, policewoman, and some more that didn't dress up.

Our raffles are a hoot as it is more like a white elephant gift kinda thing. Everyone that wants to, brings something and adds it to the table. Then tickets are drawn and winners get to claim their prize. I bought $11 worth of tickets but got an extra because the ticket giver thought I only got ten.

There was a lovely angel that I was hoping I might win. When it finally came down to her, I watched my numbers on the ticket as he called them out. :woohoo: he called my numbers. I also won a few other gifts, but the angel was the only thing I really wanted.

We cleaned up and everyone went their separate ways.

*I realize tumped isn't a "real" word. However, I have been using it my whole life and never knew it wasn't a word until I started working at the newspaper in the proofreading room when I used it and was told it wasn't a word. Even looked it up in the dictionary and discovered to my surprise that it wasn't in there

:)

It's nice to really live life; isn't it? Sometimes I feel as though I'm just going through the motions.

I'm so glad that you won the angel and that your ice cream turned out well.

2. You are so correct about living life and really getting the time to appreciate it
Since renewing my membership with AMORC I have been attending the 2 Convocations @ Triangle Lodge in Dallas. Every third Saturday they have a Mystical Weekend following that is a Temple Initiation. There are some really great people there.

Then every Thursday we have our Convocation in Ft. Worth. The people there are also great and I think I have really come out of my shell being with like minded people. I finally feel comfortable being able to express myself. And sharing what little wisdom I find along the way is an added bonus.

They have given me strength I didn't know I possessed until recently.

My wish for you is to seek whatever you think might help you through the rough patches. There are so many amazing things to learn and knowing where to look can be difficult. But we each get to choose which path is right for us and make the decision which path we want to take. If there is anything that I could ever do to help you in any way I hope you know that I'm here for you

3. I love a good story especially with a happy ending.
Thanks, MM, for injecting some humor, adventure and whimsy into the beginning of my day! Yeah, leggings! I love that they're back in style again.
I think Tumped and Dumped should be used depending on the sound the object makes when it falls over :) Tumped is definitely the sound of metal to me.

6. onomatopoeia, the formation of words whose sound is imitative of the sound of the noise or
action designated, such as hiss, buzz, and bang. Todd Rundgren wrote a song dedicated to it back in the 809's.

How I found out it wasn't a word was I sitting in my chair leaning back and it almost fell over. So I said "Wow I almost tumped over!" One of my co workers asked me what I said and I repeated it and he told me there was no such word as tumped. So, we looked it up and to my surprise it was not in the dictionary. Apparently I was in the business of making up words before Colbert

Also, the word trump is a term from the card game Bridge. It means your bid cards are from one suit or you can bid no trump. Trumps are ranked according to suit with Spades being highest in points, Hearts next, then Diamonds and Clubs are the lowest. I believe this is where the word became a metaphor meaning, I have higher cards that trump your cards.

5. Yes, we all had a really great time
And the word I'm talking about is tumped no R. Down here in Texas it means something has fallen over. As in "I almost tumped over in my chair!" Or "That wastepaper basket tumped over and spilled all its contents on the floor!"

Not sure where the word came from but I have used it all my life and kinda like it.

7. I guess I didn't read it right. So Sorry.
Yes, it sounds like a regional word. It doesn't mean it's wrong though, just that it hasn't made it into the dictionaries yet. :-) At my age I have seen many words that didn't exist when I was a child in the forties become mainstream in use and in the dictionary.

8. There no need to apologize ;=}
Another crazy thing down here is how we pronounce words ending in ow. Like pillow, window, etc. We say it like pilla, or winda. "I need to fluff up my pilla!" or "Will someone please roll down the winda?"

I still catch myself saying those words and try and correct myself when I catch it.

10. OMG, reminds me of the first job I ever had.
It was after school while in high school at a Catholic religious good's store. The owner used to add an -E-R to the end of my first name. She drove me absolutely crazy  All her A-ending words were -E-Rs, and my coworkers would snicker behind her back whenever she called me. She was from Boston, probably the most impartial boss I've ever had and I could never bring myself to correct her.

12. That's the Boston accent!
They drop the "r" at the end of "ar"-ending words where there is one, and add one on a-ending words where there isn't. Linguists can explain why it happens, but I can't remember the details of the explanation.

It's on display if you ever watch a JFK speech where he talks about events pertaining to the island of Cuber.

And I'm proud, as a person from Boston, that she was so impartial. There are a lot of people in Boston (not everyone, of course) who are reflexively fair. It's a good thing.

13. Well, right on!
Come to think of it, all of the Bostonians I've known, young and old through the years, have been cool people. And I place you firmly in that number :) Cuber
