I said goodbye to an old, dead tree.
I have to tell you about my tree.

For a few years we have been worried about our old tree that was dying and now dead. We had no funds available for removal, which had us worried when the wind would pick up or if we got a heavy rain. This is due to the fact that the tree is close to our house. Well, in the last months bigger and bigger branches fell off, and we knew it was just a matter of when. We parked the car out of the way on stormy days. Often we remarked that it could easily take out our deck, not to mention us, if we happened to be out at the right time, in heavy wind.

This morning, was a terrible windstorm. I worried on our way to the car leaving the school busstop. All went well, and then coming home I parked out of the way.

I was downstairs when it happened. I heard a WHOOOSH! It didn't occur to me that it was the tree until I happened to look out. I thought, oh, some more branches, and then I saw that it was in fact the whole tree. Our scary old friend had passed. Came tumbling down because it had to.

We had been worried about a disaster for a long time, and the disaster didn't happen. It missed our deck and our house and most importantly , us. I can't tell you what a sense of relief I feel. Thank you, God.

Due to the fact that we have had some major financial difficulties this past year or so, and a few other unpleasant happenings, I find myself astonished and embrace this beautiful symbolism of how we can worry ourselves sick, just about, and in the end... yes something dies and even shows us its bare roots with a huge hole, but it turns out, everything is more than alright.

I embrace a kind of synchronicity as well, and I have chosen to see that it is time to enjoy the lemonade.

1. Funny, just as I was reading this, Enya's
"Pax Deorum," from "Memory of Trees" was playing in the background. Your insightful story and this song, reminded me of a movie I saw this early morning called "The Road." And I've been thinking all day about it, especially the massive trees falling in this post-apocalyptic movie. I was wondering how would I (we) be if there was no hope, no better out there? Could we still find joy in our struggle to survive, avoiding the cannibals, escaping the dead trees falling around us, and shivering as the world dies in its nuclear winter?

What is the point of this hopeless movie, in which many people just committed suicide? But you've come away with the same conclusion, right here, right now not to give into worry and find/make joy where one can.

It is time to enjoy the lemonade

4. Weird. I just watched "The Road" for the first
time last week. Part of it was filmed in Mt. St. Helen. So many trees had died in that cataclysmic eruption. I wonder if the movie crew happened on a stand of dead trees as they fell and where able to photograph it for the movie or if it was just special effects. Although the movie was about man-made disaster, Mother Nature can also be a great destroyer.

8. Mt. St. Helen makes sense because
there was just so much ash and I wondered if it was just an incredible effect. I mean the landscape looked so much bigger and much worse, like parts of here after one of our wildfires. But what I love is the green and mossy plants that grows from all the charred and blackened trees and vegetation. That never ceases to amaze me. Yeah, Mother Nature, what duality.

6. It's always sad to lose a tree. They truly are our friends and
the friends of the creatures who benefit from their presence. Every time I see a bull dozer move in to clear trees I feel very, very sad and helpless.

9. Count this as a TRIPLE blessing!!
First....it missed you , your home and any neighbors who could have been hurt and sued you.
Second it saved you the cost of cutting it down...(very expensive...I know)
Third with a chain saw you can supply wood for yourself and others for many winters to come. Perhaps even an extra blessing in some needed cash for the sale of it!!??? It would be great if you have a woodstove or fireplace!! Bless the tree...but it's been dead for a while now from the sound of it!

12. Well, the wood is rather rotten,
so I don't know if it would be good to use or sell, but..maybe some parts of it. Yes, I believe in the triple blessing, though! Thanks!

13. What a beautiful story....

Thank you so much for sharing.

I lost two huge huge trees, about a year apart, in storms, and I feared the same. I empathize with your story and am so glad it had a peaceful ending. :)

14. A Prayer for your Tree
Thank you Tree for providing shade
Along with the shade you provided coolness
Along with the coolness you provided breezes that added to the coolness

Thank you for growing tall and strong
May your Spirit return to the Earth and return again as a Tall Beautiful Tree
And offer us the pleasures once again.

We treasure your presence and grateful you died in Peace.

I am thankful your safety was saved from Tree causing any more unburdened stress for you.

I raise my glass of Lemonade with you :toast: and a
