Okay, this may seem silly, but...
can I ask for extra special juju for my kid?

He's competing in the Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby tomorrow (racing homemade cars down a steep ramp), and he REALLY wants to do well--cars are HIS THANG. Quite simply, he's always been obsessed with everything four-wheeled, even when he was tiny. He's sort of like an automotive Rain Man, to tell the truth. :P In fact, one of the main reasons he joined Scouts was to participate in the Derby.

He came in fourth last year, beating out tons of kids way older than him, but lost the trophies to a bunch of 11-year-olds. Now he wants to do better.

Anyway, we've created the best car we could, and even though he's only 7, he worked really hard on it--painting it, helping to sand and buff the axles, balancing the car, etc.

We went to test it on the track this evening and everything looked really good, except...the only other car that came even close to giving him a run for his money is owned by...his nemesis. He can't stand this kid (and, quite frankly, I'm not a fan of his Hummer-driving, Sarah Palin-glasses-wearing mother either). Now, I'm not asking for an edge to beat this kid just because I don't like his mother  but only for good vibes and light so he can do his best tomorrow, and so the car stays in one piece (wheels have been known to go flying).

Also, if it's not too much to ask, perhaps some juju to make sure that Mr. MG isn't called away to his job, as might happen, as he's on call this weekend. There isn't much we can do to help once the races are under way, but not having Mr. MG there would do terrible things to MG Jr's morale--plus if repairs are needed...well, that's dad's job. (I'm the detail painter.)

This is a pic of MG Jr. at last year's race:

and this is this year's car (the red one is the racer; the military Hummer is for fun and the "good lookin' car" contest):

Any love and light you can share would be great. The races start at 11 a.m. ET tomorrow.

Thanks, everyone! :grouphug:

7. Not silly at all!
Sending you prayers, love and light.

This is so important to kids. My son still has his pinewood derby cars, and he is 29.

13. Oh Muriel, that's great!
I strongly suspect my son will do the same. I keep badgering Mr. MG to put up a "trophy shelf" (he has one from a Hot Wheels drag race last summer) where he can keep all his special model cars too.

8. For the Stig
I am the Stig
You got a gig
To win a race
To WIN 1st Place

Your car is powered by juju
Just for YouYou!

Hey MG, one thing to think about, I've always been told red makes the eye/mind perceive it as going faster than other colors. Let's just pray this is true. My money's on MG'jr's red car, surround by bright shining White Light. It will beat out any and all other competition.

Good Luck

14. Love it! Thanks, MM!
GOOD POINT about the red car! Last year the digital timekeeping thingie over the end of the ramp broke, so the assistant scoutmaster took photo finishes of every race and they determined the winners that way. So if they have to "eyeball it" again, the red will help!

9. Vibing for the little car man!
Now if he can be as lucky as my husband, who rebuilt a 69 GTO Judge with his father when he was 15 and so that was his first car when he was 16...:) ;)

21. sending juju. (and a shade more weight in the front, tapering to the back)
worked at a store that sold Pinewood Derby stuff and heard from the parents/kids as they bought stuff. the ones who routinely won had engineer/scientists as dads and would make sure the car had enough front weight -- but not too much or too heavy overall -- to pick up the most kinetic motion on the slope and then coast furthest out.

but in a way that's cheating. and it's all about the kids discovering for themselves. so never mind me.

:hi:
